IBPS Clerk 2017 Success Story of Shital Kharche (Union Bank of India)

By Shital Kharche|Updated : April 11th, 2018

Hello friends.

I would like to share my success story of becoming Clerk in Union Bank of India.

IBPS Clerk 2017 Success Story of Shital Kharche

At first, i will tell you something about myself and why I chose this sector rather than being an Engineer:

I am Shital and I have done B.E. and MTech. in Computer Technology from well-renowned colleges with throughout 80%. I wanted to get a Government job. And I was always good at Aptitude and English, so banking exams were the obvious choice to get a government job at the earliest. And in preparations for 7-8 months, I was able to get a job.

1. Preparation Strategy for Pre: -

  • Always remember this is the stage where you face the highest competition. I always tried to score 15+ than last year’s cut-off. English was always my strongest section and so I always focused mainly on it. Many people tend to ignore English and solely focus on Reasoning and Quant. But, the key to faster selection in prelims exam lies in English section.
  • This is the section where you can complete 30 questions in 12 to 15 minutes at maximum. I think if anybody is good at English, he/she should not waste the chance to score big in this section.
  • Then, I practiced mock tests a lot. 4 in a day to be precise. All 4 of the different level. This included 1 from gradeup each day and rest from Testbook.
  • I started my day with the easiest one to build my confidence and moved towards tougher one. This helped me a lot in increasing speed and to allocate time according to the level of question paper. I will recommend practicing 2 test a day. Practicing online tests is the only shortcut to get success within the limited time.

2. Preparation for Mains: -

Reasoning, Quant, and English section must be perfect at Prelims stage. I focused on GA and Computer section solely while preparing for mains. The computer section is not always there in all the mains exams, in such case I used to prepare for GA solely.

The daily GK updates by gradeup, then Weekly one-liners were the main source for me to prepare for GA. Also, gradeup has very good articles on static GA subjects. And it will be an injustice if I do not mention GA Tornados. These are one of the best quality material available to prepare for GA section for any exam. A wholehearted thank you to gradeup for the same. Without this, I would not have been able to get over my shortcoming, i.e., GA. gradeup provided the content in an exact way I like it, i.e., main words in bold and easily recognizable. Computer section was taken care of by the Computer Tornados available.

3. How online mock tests helped me?

Online mock tests are the key to understanding where you actually stand and where you need to improve. Also, you can compare yourself with others too. And as I mentioned earlier, online tests played a major role in improving the speed.

gradeUp offers one of the best online mock tests and I have already recommended it to my friends who are preparing for the exams. Everyone must give it a try. I also used the Testbook test series a lot.

4. Section-wise important tips:

  • English: - If you are good at English, try to maximize your score here. If not, focus on the points which you find easier and try to attempt 70% of the questions with at least 90% accuracy.
  • Reasoning: - Compared to Quant, Reasoning is the easier section for many of the candidates. Here you can solve all the questions easily. Practice is the key. Try to maintain the accuracy of at least 95% in this section.
  • Quant: - Focus on the topics such as Number series, DI, Simplification and Quadratic Equation. Try to solve the miscellaneous questions at last.
  • GA: - Make habit of reading daily updates and weekly one-liners regularly. And for static, gather information from as many sources as you can but the accurate one.
  • Computer: - I think the Tornados available and practice questions are enough to score well in this section. If you find this section difficult, please refer any textbook available and then practice questions on gradeup.
  • Descriptive: - Read any grammar book containing how to write an Essay and letters. This will surely help you out. I will recommend Wren & Martin’s High School Grammar.

5. Books preferred during preparation

  • English: - Wren and Martin’s High School Grammar and regular reading.
  • Quant: - Arihant’s Fast Track Arithmetics
  • Reasoning: - Online tests and gradeup
  • GA: - BSC Publication’s Money Banking and Finance for static GA and GradeUp for Current Affairs
  • Computer: - Tornados from GradeUp but frankly I did not refer one as I belong to C.Tech. branch.

6. No. of exams appeared and cleared:

I started my journey with the SBI PO 2017 exam. But it was without preparation. Then I appeared for RBI Assistant 2017 and IBPS Clerical-VII. I cleared prelims for both of these but failed in mains of RBI. The worst section in mains for RBI for me was GA. That was the defining moment in my studies. I have given more time to my studies so as to clear the exam.

7. Score in the exam cleared

  • For SBI:- Prelims- 63 marks:45
  • For RBI Assistant: Prelims- 90 attempts, marks:- 74 and Mains – 165 attempts out of 200
  • For IBPS Clerical- Prelims- 84 attempts & marks:-70 and Mains- 134 attempts & marks – 100.33

8. How gradeup helped me in my exam preparation?

The contribution from gradeUp has been enormous. I failed in the RBI Assistant Mains and the main reason for it was the GA section. Thanks to gradeUp daily updates, weekly one-liners, and monthly one-liners, I was able to cover up my shortcoming in a very rapid way.

Then there are daily quizzes and mock tests, and the great community. Practice for every section was taken care of by the daily quizzes and practice question section. I can proudly say that gradeup was my mentor throughout this journey.

9. My success Mantra

Follow your passion, be prepared to work hard and sacrifice, and, above all, don’t let anyone limit your dreams!

Always believe something wonderful is about to happen!
