 IBPS Clerk Prelims Exam Analysis 2018 

Here are the major highlights of IBPS Clerk Preliminary Exam for the 3rd shift

  • The sequence of the section- English Language, Numerical Ability, Reasoning Ability 
  • Most Easy sections - Reasoning. There were no new pattern questions. The questions were easy to do.
  • English Language: No new pattern questions were asked. The level of the section was easy to moderate. 
  • Numerical Ability: Quadratic equation was not asked in this shift. Except DI, all questions were very easy. DI was calculative. 10 questions of simplifications were asked.

1. Reasoning Ability Exam Review of IBPS Clerk Prelims 2018

35 Questions were asked in this section. The overall level of this section was Easy. Questions from following topics were asked in this section:

  • Puzzles & Seating Arrangement
    (a) 20 questions were asked from this section, 2 puzzles, and 2 seating arrangement.
    (b) 5 questions from a Square based puzzle was asked. Four persons were sitting at corners and four at the middle of the square.
    (c) The other was a Floor based puzzle. There was 9 floors and 9 persons needed to be arranged. 5questions were asked.
    (d) A circular seating arrangement was asked. In this 10 people were facing inside the circle. 5 questions were asked.
    (e) 5 questions were asked. A linear seating arrangement was asked in which 12 people were sitting in parallel rows facing north and south direction respectively.

  • Inequality -
    (a) 3 questions were asked from this topic.
    (b) Questions asked were very easy.

  • Alphabet Series - 
    (a)5 Questions were asked from this topic. 
    (b) A series of 3-3 Alphabets were given. Such as ANM MNQ ROP.
    (C) Questions were of easy level.

  • Blood Relation -
    (a) Blood relation question was asked in puzzle form.
    (b) 3 questions were asked in this topic.

  • Numeric Series
    (a) 5 questions from Numeric Series were asked.
    (b) Questions were easy to do.

  • Miscellaneous Topics 
    (a) 4 questions from Miscellaneous topics were asked.
    (b) 1 question from 'Leadership' word was asked.

2. Numerical Ability Exam Review of IBPS Clerk Prelims 2018

This section comprised of total 35 questions. The overall level of this section was Moderate. Following topics were asked in this section:

  • Number Series
    (a) 5 Questions were asked from this topic.
    (b) Missing number series was asked.
    (c)  4 questions were easy to detect and 1 was calculative and tough.
    (d) Questions were based on Square Pattern, Cube pattern and Difference Patter.

  • Simplification/ Approximation
    (a) 13 Questions were asked from this topic. 
    (b) Some questions from this topic were very calculative and time-consuming.
    (b) Questions were based on basic BODMAS rules.
     
  • Data Interpretation
    (a) 1 set of DI, i.e. 5 Questions were asked from this topic. 
    (b) A Bar Graph DI was asked.
    (c) Questions were based on topics like Ratios, Averages, Difference etc. 
    (d) The questions asked were easy and doable.

  • Miscellaneous Questions
    (a) 12 Questions were asked from Miscellaneous Arithmetic Questions. 
    (b) Questions were asked from topics like Averages, Age-based problems, profit & loss, partnerships, speed time & distance, simple & compound interest, percentages etc. 
    (c) Questions from the arithmetic topics were slightly calculative and time-consuming. 

3. English Language Exam Review of IBPS Clerk Prelims 2018

The pro-tip for this section is that read and understand the instructions very carefully. There were 30 Questions asked in this section. The overall level of the this section was Easy to Moderate. English section included the following topics in the exam:

  • Reading Comprehension
    (a) The passage was not story based. Vocab based questions were also asked. The passage was based on Role of siblings in a family.
    (b) 10 Questions were asked from this topic. 
    (c) Synonym of 'sway' and 'positive' was asked.

  • Phrase Replacement
    (a)5 Questions were asked from idiom and phrases.
    (b) The questions asked were easy. Try to get the answer by elimination methods with the help of options.

  • Fill in the blanks
    (a)5 Questions were asked from this topic.
    (b) Questions were based on single fillers.
    (c) The questions were of Moderate Level.

  • Cloze Test
    (a) 5 questions were asked from cloze test topic.
    (b) The questions were not complex.
    (C) Cloze test was also story based.

    Match the columns 
  • (a) 5 questions were asked.
    (b) The questions were easily doable.
