Explain the Law of Dominance and Law of Segregation with Examples

The Law of dominance and the law of segregation is part of the laws of inheritance proposed by Gregor Johann Mendel. The laws were introduced after Mendel conducted a series of experiments with pea plants (Pisum sativum). His learnings from the experiments were deduced as the two laws. The explanation for the law of dominance and law of segregation with examples is given below:

As per this law, in a heterozygous condition, the dominant allele is one whose characters are expressed over the other allele.

In a hybrid pair, when two traits come together, the two characters do not mix with each other and are independent of each other.

The characters of this dominant allele are called dominant characters.

Every gamete receives one of the two alleles during meiosis of the chromosome.

Example - Inheritance of seed shape in peas.

Example - The color of the flower depends on the type of allele inherited by the offspring.
