SOLUTION

1. Town after town were conquered by him but he found no peace.

Explanation – Town after town  is the correct form.

2. When we reached the fair we found that there was no room to stand.

Explanation –  Room means enough empty space for people or things to be fitted in.

3. All the evidence was against him and he was held guilty.

Explanation – Evidence is an uncountable noun. It has no plural form. So, singular verb was should be used.

4. My cousin is a cheat and he cheats his family members and friends too.

Explanation – Cousin brother and cheater are words formed in India due to Indianization of English Language.

5. The cattle in the meadow were terrified to hear the roar of a lion which appeared to be wild with anger.

Explanation –  Cattle is a plural noun. Change was into were.
