In the present competitive scenario English plays a very important role in our day to day life. Thus it is essential to have a sound knowledge and understanding of English vocabulary. So here we are presenting you a list of 10 difficult words from today’s newspapers. This will help you to sail and score good marks in English Language section. We will provide Daily Word List on a regular basis.

Here is today’s list of words

1. Diaphanous – adjective - (especially of fabric) light, delicate, and translucent – पारदर्शक

Synonyms – clearstar, delicate

Antonyms – opaque, thick

E.g. – She wore a flowing, diaphanous gown and had long, wavy, bronze colored hair.

2. Extol – verb - praise enthusiastically प्रशंसा करना

Synonyms – glorify, applaud

Antonyms – castigate, condemn

E.g. – I got angry when my mother would extol my brother’s accomplishments and ignore all the good things I did.

3. Conflagration – noun - an extensive fire which destroys a great deal of land or property - आग

Synonyms – blaze, bonfire

E.g. – It suffered severely from a conflagration in 1870.

4. Contrite – adjective - feeling or expressing remorse at the recognition that one has done wrong - पछताया हुआ

Synonyms – apologetic, humble

Antonyms – hurtful, indifferent

E.g. – You said the rapist character was all contrite and God loving.

5. Diffidentadjective - modest or shy because of a lack of self-confidence संकोची

Synonyms – bashful, demure

Antonyms – aggressive, bold

E.g. – Because she felt unattractive, Mary was diffident and kept to herself at parties.

6. Perfunctory – adjective - (of an action) carried out without real interest, feeling, or effort बेपरवाह

Synonyms – cursory, offhand

Antonyms – careful, complete

E.g. – He dropped a perfunctory kiss on her cheek and left.

7. Indefatigable – adjective - (of a person or their efforts) persisting tirelessly अथक

Synonyms – assiduous, diligent

Antonyms – changing, idle

E.g. – He had courage, a vivid sense of duty, an indefatigable love of work, and all the inquisitive zeal and inventive energy of a born reformer.

8. Feral – adjective - (especially of an animal) in a wild state, especially after escape from captivity or domestication जंगली

Synonyms – ferocious, animal

E.g. – She barely recognized the feral look on his face, and despair slid through her.

9. Incontrovertible – adjective - not able to be denied or disputed मुंहतोड़

Synonyms – accurate, authentic

Antonyms – changeable, controvertible

E.g. – How can you deny the incontrovertible proof staring you in the face?

10. Conundrum – noun - a confusing and difficult problem or question पहेली

Synonyms – enigma, mystery

E.g. – Trying to solve this conundrum is really making my head hurt.
