  • Usage in a Sentence: Of the younger individuals who have died, many presented underlying health issues.

3. Word: Abstention (अकरण)

  • Pronunciation: ab-sten-shuh n/ ऐब्स्टेन्शन
  • Part of Speech: Noun
  • Meaning
    a. an instance of declining to vote for or against a proposal or motion.
    b. restraint in one's consumption; abstinence.
  • Synonyms: abstinence, refraining, avoidance
  • Antonyms: foray, practice, indulgence
  • Usage in a sentence: There were 10 ayes, 6 nays, and 2 abstentions when the vote was taken.

4. Phrase: Turn the spotlight on

  • Pronunciation: टर्न द स्पॉटलाइट ऑन
  • Meaning: to attract attention to something, usually to give information about something bad
  • Synonyms: stress, place emphasis, emphasise
  • Antonym: ignore
  • Usage in a sentence: The documentary turned the spotlight on the low wages paid to manual workers.

5. Word: Enormous (विशाल/दीर्घाकार)

  • Pronunciation: ih-nawr-muhs /ईनॉर्मस 
  • Part of Speech: Adjective
  • Meaning:
    a. greatly exceeding the common size, extent, etc.; huge; immense
    b. outrageous or atrocious
  • Synonyms: huge, immense, gigantic, colossal
  • Antonyms: diminutive, minute, insignificant
  • Usage in a sentence: She showed enormous courage when she rescued him from the fire.

6. Word: Retreat (निर्णय बदलना)

  • Pronunciation: ri-treet/रीट्रीट
  • Part of Speech: Verb/Noun
  • Meaning:
    a. an act of changing one's mind or plans as a result of criticism or difficulty. [Noun]
    b. (of an army) withdraw from enemy forces as a result of their superior power or after a defeat. [verb]
    c. withdraw to a quiet or secluded place. [verb]
  • Synonyms: recede, depart
  • Antonyms: remain, progression
  • Usage in a Sentence: The man made a tactful retreat before they started arguing.

7. Word: Ferocious (भयंकर)

  • Pronunciation: fuh-roh-shuhs/ फरोशस
  • Part of Speech: Adjective
  • Meaning: 
    a. savagely fierce, as a wild beast, person, action, or aspect; violently cruel:
    b. extreme or intense:
  • Synonyms: savage, fierce, vicious
  • Antonyms: calm, kind, benevolent
  • Usage in a sentence: As per various news reports, a ferocious storm was building in the Arabian sea.  

8. Word: Attrition (संघर्षण)

  • Pronunciation: uh-trish-uh n/अट्रिशन
  • Part of Speech: Noun
  • Meaning:

         a. the process of reducing something's strength or effectiveness through sustained attack or pressure.

  • Synonyms: contrition, depletion
  • Antonyms: fortification, escalating
  • Use in a Sentence: These were the economics not of efficiency but of attrition.

9. Phrase: Bogged down (फंस गया)

  • Part of Speech: adjective
  • Meaning: to prevent someone or something from moving on or progressing:
  • Synonyms: entangled, involved, overwhelmed,
  • Antonyms: clogged, stuck
  • Usage in a sentence: Sometimes this fact is overshadowed because churches get so bogged down by unimportant rules.

10. Word: Annex (हड़प लेनाउपभवन)

  • Pronunciation: an-eks/ ऐनेक्स
  • Part of Speech: Verb, Noun
  • Meaning:
    a. add as an extra or subordinate part, especially to a document. [Verb]
    b. a building joined to or associated with the main building, providing additional space or accommodation. [Noun]
  • Synonyms: attachment, add, append
  • Antonyms: subtract, detach, separate
  • Usage in a sentence: The annex has been built on to the main building.
