1. Mana Patel, Virdhawal Khade win best swimmers’ award

  • Mana Patel of Gujarat and Maharashtra’s Virdhawal Khade emerged as the best swimmers of the 69th senior National Aquatic Championship.
  • Mana, was adjudged the best swimmer in the women’s category of the competition while Khade was declared best swimmer in men’s category.
  • The Karnataka team was adjudged the best team for its overall performance in the competition. As per points table, the Railway was at the top, followed by Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat.
  • Over 700 swimmers from across the country had taken part in the five-day-long event organized jointly by the Swimming Federation of India (SFI) and Gujarat State Aquatic Association (GSAA).

2. International Indigenous Terra Madre 2015 startes in Shillong

  • The five day-long unique event, International Indigenous Terra Madre-2015, which brings over a 100 tribes from 58 countries, kicked off today in Shillong, Meghalaya.
  • The international event will celebrate the cultural and biological diversity of indigenous communities as expressed in their songs, dance, dress, folklores and food systems that have evolved through generations of close interaction with nature.
  • The event will run till 7 November 2015.

3. Deepak Singhal appointed Executive Director of RBI

  • Deepak Singhal has taken over as the new Executive Director at the Reserve Bank of India with effect from today.
  • Prior to his appointment he was the Regional Director in-charge of Reserve Bank of India, New Delhi.

4. Former WB Speaker Hashim Abdul Halim passes away

  • Veteran CPI(M) leader and former Speaker of the West Bengal Assembly Hasim Abdul Halin(80-years) passed away in Kolkata.
  • Halin was the Speaker of the State Assembly for a record time of 29 years from 1982 to 2011 during the Left Front rule in the state.
  • He was the longest-serving Speaker of any Legislative Assembly in the country.

5. IPL COO Sundar Raman resigns, BCCI accepts resignation

  • Indian Premier League Chief Operating Officer, Sundar Raman has resigned from his position. Board of Control for Cricket in promptly accepted the resignation.
  • Sundar Raman’s role had been questioned by the Justice Lodha Committee during their investigation into the IPL spot-fixing scandal.
  • He is under investigation for his alleged role in the 2013 IPL corruption scandal and is scheduled to appear before the Lodha Committee on 15th of November.

6. Former Cabinet Secy. to head panel on new education policy

  • Former Cabinet secretary T.S.R. Subramanian has been appointed chairperson of a committee set up by the Human Resource Development Ministry to draft the new education policy.
  • The committee, which has been mandated to submit the draft of the new policy no later than December 31, 2015.
  • The National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA) will act as its Secretariat.
