Schemes under Ministry of Women and Child Development –

1. Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP)-

• Launched by the PM on January 22, 2015, at Panipat, Haryana.
• Objective- Improve Child Sex Ratio, Protection, and education of girl child.
• Three ministries are involved which are -Ministries of Women and Child Development, Health & Family Welfare and Human Resource Development.
• Enforcement of Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCP&DT) Act, 1994.
• Current brand ambassador-Olympic Bronze medallist Sakshi Malik.
• Initially, it was focussed on 100 districts with low Child Sex Ratio.
• In 2016, 61 more districts added.

1. Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana-

• Launched by the Prime Minister on January 21, 2015.
• Under Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Women and Child Development.
• It is a part of BBBP (Beti Bachao Beti Padhao).
• Only for girls whose age are equal or below 10 years.
• Tenure- 21 years from the date of opening or girl’s marriage
• Current interest rate- 8.4 Percent.
• The account can be opened via post offices or commercial banks.
• Parents or legal guardian can open an account in the name of the girl child.
• Girl Can withdraw 50% of the money after reaching the age of 18. Example-For higher education.

1. POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) E-Box-

• Online complaint management system
• Action against the offenders under the POCSO Act, 2012.
• Any human being up to the age of 18 years is recognized as a child under the POCSO Act.

1. SHe-box’ (sexual harassment electronic box) portal-

• Launched in July 2017.
• The online platform to enable women employees of the central govt. to file complaints related to sexual harassment at the workplace.

1. ‘SABLA’ Scheme-

• Also known as Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls.
• Launched in 2010.
• Development of adolescent girls of 11-18 years by making them ‘self-reliant’.
• Focus areas- Nutrition, Skill Development, and Health.

1. Tejaswini Project-

• Initially, the project has been implemented in 17 districts in Jharkhand.
• Tejaswini Socio-Economic Empowerment of Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) Project.
• The project is financed by World Bank.

1. Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS)

• Launched on October 2, 1975.
• Provides food, education, and primary health care to children under 6 years of age and their mothers.
• Six services are provided under ICDS which are-(1) Supplementary nutrition (SNP) (2) Immunization (3) Health checkup (4) Referral services (5) Pre-school nonformal education (6) Nutrition & health education are provided.
• Anyone can visit the Aanganwadi centre and enroll these services.

1. Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahayog Yojana-

• Provide financial aid of Rs 6,000 to pregnant women who undergo institutional delivery for hospital admission.
• Across 650 districts of the country.
• Initially launched in 2010 on a pilot basis for implementation in 53 districts, with the benefit amount being Rs 4,000. From January 2017 government amended the scheme.
• The scheme provided cash transfer to pregnant women above the age of 18 years for up to two live births.
