Study Note on Strecker Acid Synthesis
Strecker acid synthesis can also be called Strecker amino acid synthesis or Strecker synthesis. It is a 2-step process for Amino acid synthesis.
In this reaction, an aldehyde reacts with ammonia (NH3) in presence of potassium cyanide (NaCN) to yield amino acid.
In this, firstly the condensation reaction yields an α-amino nitrile which is then hydrolyzed to give the amino acid.
