Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 18, 2015 launched the 45000-crore rupees Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The scheme is launched by Union Ministry of Power.
Aim: The aim of the scheme is to ensure 24×7 Power for all by 2022.
Objective: The objective of the scheme is to strengthen sub-transmission network, Metering, IT application, Customer Care Services, provisioning of solar panels and the completion of the ongoing works of Restructured Accelerated Power Development and completion of the Reforms Programme (RAPDRP).
Budget: The Government of India will provide budgetary support of 45800 crore rupees over the entire implementation period of IPDS for entire country. Out of the total amount 1067 crore rupees has been sanctioned for Uttar Pradesh including 572 crore rupees for Varanasi.
- To start the scheme in Varanasi, PM laid foundation stone of two power substations.
- The Scheme includes upgradation of the electrical assets at Sub – centers, lines and distribution transformers, capacity enhancement and renewal of the old sub – stations and installation of roof-top solar panel in government buildings.
- IPDS will help in reduction in AT&C losses; establishment of IT-enabled energy accounting /auditing system, improvement in billed energy based on metered consumption and improvement in collection efficiency.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also launched seven other projects and schemes that include construction of a ring road in Varanasi city, beautification and widening and revamp of the road from Babatpur airport to the city.
