There are numerous causes of pollution, which have been a major concern for the world recently. With rising pollution, breathing fresh and clean air has become next to impossible. There are many factors causing pollution such as the burning of fossil fuels, industrial emissions, factories, mining activities, domestic sources, construction, volcanic eruptions, open burning of garbage waste, microbial decaying process, etc. Let’s take a look at the top 10 causes of pollution below.

As we have mentioned above there are so many causes of pollution. But, below we have mentioned the top 10 factors that contribute significantly to increasing pollution.

  1. Burning of Fossil Fuels- it includes the burning of oil, coal, and gasoline to produce energy for transportation or electricity.
  2. Industrial Emission- Factories and industries also emit pollutants in the air that causes pollution.
  3. Automobiles- Harming gases emitted from vehicles also contribute to pollution.
  4. Mining Activities- While extracting minerals, dust and harmful chemicals are released.
  5. Construction- Construction work is also one of the major causes of pollution.
  6. Volcanic Eruptions- Volcanos release sulfur dioxide into the air 
  7. Domestic Sources- cleaning products in household and paints contains harmful chemicals that aid pollution.
  8. Wildfires- wildfires also cause an increase in PM 2.5 in the air that collides with harmful substances and creates smog.
  9. Microbial Decaying Process- Decaying of microorganisms releases methane gas which is toxic.
  10. Agricultural Activities- Use of pesticides, insecticides, and fertilizers releases harmful chemicals.
