What are mineral resources?

Mineral resources are the concentration or occurrence of economically valuable minerals in or on the crust of the Earth. The primary material foundation for socioeconomic growth in mineral resources.

According to statistics, more than 95% of the energy used by humans, 80% of the raw materials used in industry, and 70% of the raw materials used in agricultural production come from mineral resources.

Uses of Mineral Resources

  • Mineral deposits determine how they are used. While some nations have abundant mineral deposits, others do not.
  • The qualities of minerals determine how best to utilize them.
  • Aluminum, for instance, is utilized in the aircraft, shipping, and automobile industries since metal is lightweight, strong, and long-lasting by nature.
  • Almost every industry uses minerals. In the jewelry industry, gold, silver, and platinum are employed, copper is used to making pipes, cables, and coins. Quartz provides silicon, which is used in the computer industry.
  • Fireworks have color because of mineral components. Strontium generates dark reds, copper makes blues, zinc produces salt, and barium produces glossy greens.
  • Strontium and sodium combine to create a bright orange color; titanium, zirconium, and magnesium alloys have silvery white; copper and strontium make lavender blue.

Examples of Mineral Resources

  • Compounds created naturally on Earth are known as minerals, and their structure and chemical makeup are apparent.
  • More than 3000 minerals are known to exist. Some are uncommon and priceless, like gold and diamonds, while others, like quartz, are more commonplace.
  • As with all substances, minerals are made up of atoms. There are just 100 things in our immediate environment, and they are the foundation for everything we are.
  • They can be found either in their pure state or mixed chemically with other constituents of compounds. Two or more elements that are chemically bonded together make up a compound.

Summary:

What are mineral resources?

A mineral resource is an accumulation or occurrence of economically valuable minerals in or on the Earth's crust. Mineral resources are the main component of socioeconomic growth.
