What is WBCS?
West Bengal Civil Service, or WBCS Exam, is a premier-level West Bengal state government exam for Executive, Revenue Services, Co-operative Services, Labour Services, and Food and Supplies Services recruitment posts.
- As of now, West Bengal Public Service Commission holds the WBCS Exam almost every year.
- Candidates with a Graduate degree from a recognized University who can read, write and speak in Bengali and is between 21 years and 36 years of age are eligible to take the West Bengal Civil Service exam.
- WBCS recruits for four Groups A, B, C, and D. Candidates may apply for one or more of the four services groups. The selection of candidates happens according to the merit order and available vacancies.

WBCS Exam Pattern
WBCS stands for West Bengal Civil Service, a three-stage examination consisting of a preliminary Examination, the Main Examination, and an Interview. The Preliminary examination is a screening-type test.
Candidates who get marks greater than the cut-off marks will be eligible for the WBCS mains examination. The final merit list will be created by calculating the marks of the Mains and interview stages.

The WBCS Prelims exam has only one objective-type question paper. The paper’s name is General Studies, a mixture of all the topics in the WBCS syllabus. The total marks for the exam are 200 (200 questions), and a negative Marking of 1/3rd is applicable. The questions asked in this paper are in both languages (Bengali and English). |

The WBCS Mains exam is conducted separately as per the group of services in the following manner. Group ‘A’ & ‘B” services & posts need to appear in all the compulsory papers (Paper-I to VI) and two optional papers. Group ‘C’ & ‘D’ services & posts need to appear in all the compulsory papers (Paper-I to VI). |

Several candidates selected in order of merit on the Main Examination results for all the services and posts included in Groups A, B, C, and D shall have to appear at a Personality Test. |
