Who was the First Home Minister of India?

Sardar Patel was the first Home Minister of India. He is also known as the “Iron Man of India”. He served as the Home Minister during the 1947 Indo-Pakistani War and India’s political unification. Additionally, he was also the first Deputy Prime Minister from 1947 to 1950 where he assisted the then Prime Minister Nehru. He played a major role in reorganizing India where he brought almost 500 princely states into the Indian union.

The first male Home minister of Independent India was Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, also known as the “Iron Man of India” and “Unifier of India”. He served both as a Home Minister as well as the first Deputy Prime Minister of India. He organised a nonviolent civil disobedience movement against the Britishers among peasants in the Kheda, Borsad, and Bardoli places of Gujarat.

  • She was the second longest-serving Prime Minister of India after her father, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
