What is Radha Krishna Commission?

Radha Krishna Commission was established to investigate the situation of Indian university education and make recommendations for improvements. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was named Chairman of the Commission on University Education. After India attained independence on August 15, 1947, the University Education Commission requested Dr. Radhakrishnan to serve as its chair.

The Radhakrishnan Commission recommended, among other things, that teachers receive a percentage of more significant compensation to provide them with an incentive to educate.

  • The Radhakrishnan Committee’s recommendations helped shape India’s educational system by reporting on Indian university education and suggesting modifications and extensions that may be desirable to meet the country’s current and future needs.
  • The Commission convened for the first time on December 6, 1948, in New Delhi, when India’s Minister of Education, Hon. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad issued a statement detailing the government’s intentions regarding the goal and scope of the probe.
  • The Commission’s 1949 Report assessed the situation of higher education in newly independent India and made recommendations for its improvement.
