A legitimate government is a democratic government. A democratic government is elected by the people and has their support, which makes it legitimate. The government can be held accountable by making laws and policies that allow individuals to hold it accountable if none of them is executed or deemed against the benefit of the public.

Legitimate Government
A legitimate government is one that allows its public to participate in the political processes. ‘Legitimacy’ is the core word here which provides an open right to the concerned person/leader to govern a country or administration. A democratic government can be called a legitimate government because of the following reasons:
- When citizens begin to act after the government has ceased to care about its objectives, the government can be held accountable.
- People have the power to compel the government to act by organizing protests, campaigns, and rallies.
- Both the right and the power to choose their rulers belong to the people. Citizens have the ability to influence decisions.
- Democracy shows how standards and procedures serve as the foundation for decision-making.
- Therefore, a citizen can learn whether the decision was taken as per due procedures.
- When necessary, citizens can participate in decision-making.
- A democratic government is one that is owned and controlled by the people.
- People want to dominate their elected officials.
