Remote Sensing includes the gathering of images. It is a process of observing and detecting the physical features of a particular area by collecting the radiations emitted or reflected by the surface or surroundings, usually through a satellite. Remote sensing actually involves a collection of images. For this purpose special cameras have been installed which collect these images which are later used by the researchers to develop the overall sense of the earth.

What is Remote Sensing?

Remote sensing is defined as the process of observing and recognizing certain features of an area or object with the help of images or radiations emitted from the object’s surface or surroundings. Remote sensing is widely used in Earth research. It involves collecting images through which researchers can take an idea of the Earth.

In other words, remote sensing helps to create a plot entirely based on the radiations it emits, without coming close to the Earth’s surface or making any physical contact. It is also widely used in other fields, such as geology, geography, land surveying, and military operations.

Types of Remote Sensing

The term ‘remote sensing’ specifically refers to the process of obtaining information about the Earth and other planets. Remote Sensing can be divided into main types:

  • Passive remote sensing
  • Active remote sensing.
