The population of Cheetah in India is Twenty. On February 18th, 2023, twelve cheetahs were translocated from South Africa to Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh, India. This was made possible through an MoU signed between South Africa and India, intended to promote collaboration in reintroducing cheetahs to India and creating a sustainable cheetah population in the Asian nation. Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier released eight cheetahs from Namibia at Kuno National Park on September 17th, 2022.

There are currently 20 cheetahs in India in 2023 in Kuno National Park (KNP) in Madhya Pradesh. In August 2022, the Union Cabinet Minister of Labour and Employment and Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, announced the reintroduction of African cheetahs to Kuno Wildlife Sanctuary in September. On 17 September 2022, a total of eight cheetahs, consisting of five females and three males from Namibia, arrived at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh, India, and were released as part of the reintroduction program.

Two male cheetahs were relocated to a bigger cage on November 20, 2022, to continue recovery. On November 28, 2022, two female cheetahs were transferred into the larger cage after a second male cheetah was also let out. In January 2023, An agreement was made between India and South Africa to bring back cheetahs to India. The first group of 12 cheetahs is to arrive in February 2023. According to the deal, South Africa would relocate 12 cheetahs per year for the following eight to ten years. Oban and Aasha, a pair of cheetahs were released into Kuno National Park on March 11th, 2023. In the years to come, more cheetahs were planned for release.

Two more cheetahs were released into the park on March 22, 2023, increasing the total number of cheetahs to 4. Radio collars are used to track every cheetah that is released. Siyaya, one of the cheetahs, gave birth to four cubs on March 24, 2023.
