Dear Aspirants,
Questions based on Alphametics are a part of the MBA entrance exams.
Alphametics are number puzzles in basic arithmetic operations where digits are represented by alphabets. It is an important concept with respect to question solving in Number System. But, it requires a lot of skill and understanding of the properties of numbers.
Example: S is a 6 digit number beginning with 1 . If the digit 1 is removed from the left most placed and is placed at the right-most place the number obtained is 3 times of S. What is the sum of digits of S.
Solution: As per the condition is given in the question
E when multiplied by 3 gives 1, that means E=7 and we get a carryover of 2
Now, carryover of 2 gives 7, which means on multiplying 3 by D we must get unit digit as 5, therefore = 5.
If processed in the same manner we will get the following solution:
Therefore, the sum of the digits is: 4+2+8+5+7+1 = 27.
