• There is no upper age limit for the Madhya Pradesh SET exam. Candidates of any age who meet the minimum educational requirements are eligible to register for the exam.

The authority has established a minimum educational qualification for candidates interested in the exam, similar to the age limit. • An eligible candidate should have a postgraduate degree in the relevant subject with 55% marks. For SC/ST/OBC the minimum marks shall be 50% to appear in the examination.
• Candidates must have a Master's degree from a UGC-recognized university/institution to be eligible to take the MP SET exam.
• Candidates who are awaiting their postgraduate results or who are currently enrolled are also eligible to take the exam. Such candidates, however, are only permitted temporarily. If they pass a master's degree or equivalent exam with a 55% or higher, they will be considered a qualified candidate. Otherwise, they will be deemed ineligible.
• Candidates awarded Ph.D. degrees before 19 September 1991 will also be eligible to apply for the Madhya Pradesh State Eligibility Test. 
• Candidates are only allowed to appear in the same subject as their Postgraduation. Candidates whose subjects are not included in the SET subject list may appear in the corresponding subjects.
