MP Special: Important Cultural Institutions in Madhya Pradesh.

Cultural institutions and academies in Madhya Pradesh

In Madhya Pradesh, cultural institutions have been given importance since ancient times. There are also significant contributors to cultural institutions as well as literary institutions

1.Bharat Bhavan-
Bharat Bhavan was established for development and promotion of creative arts in Bhopal on February 13, 1982 under Bharat Bhawan Trust Act 1982.
The Bharat Bhawan, designed by Charles Korea, was inaugurated by late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on February 13, 1982 in Bhopal. It works for experimentation, exploration, innovation and elevation of art. There are following six departments in Bharat Bhawan.

  1. Rupankar- This is a museum of fine arts.
  2. Wagarth- This is a liabrary of fourteen Indian language.
  3. Anhad- This is a museum of classical and folk music materials.
  4. Intimate and Exoteric- There are internal and open theatre.
  5. Fine- This is liabrary and archieves of fine arts.
  6. Aakar (Dimension)- This a workshop related to graphic sculptures and painting.

2. Ravindra Bhawan - Ravindra Bhawan located in Bhopal is one of the best drama institution in India. This building is functionally under the Official Language and Cultural Communication Court. There are two internal and open theatres in Ravindra Bhavan.

3. Kalidas Academy : This academy was established at Ujjain in 1977. Its purpose is to promote and protect the tradition of Kalidas. Every year dramas, debate and poetry competition based on the compositions of Kalidas are organized here.

4.Madhya Pradesh Art Council- This institute was established at Bhopal in 1952. The main purpose of this institute is to promote, music, dance, fine arts and theater in the state. This institute organises Khajuraho festival in Khajuraho and Tansen festival in Gwalior.

5.Madhya Pradesh Literature Council- This council was established at Bhopal in 1954. Through this institute different types of honors are given to writers and authors for their work, done in the progress and development of literature

6.Allauddhin Khan Music Academy- This was established in 1979 at Mehar. It is a major music educational institution of India. This music institute is in Bhopal. It works to promote music and other arts among the artists.  7.Tulsi Academy- This academy was established in the year 1987 at Bhopal. Its main purpose is to explore, disseminate and preserve Tulsi literature. New and non-academic research is encouraged on conference, seminars, discussions, on Goswami Tulsidas literature. The publication of the monthly magazine Tulsi sadhana centered on research on Goswami Tulsidas literature is done by the Academy.

8.Madhya Pradesh Sanskrit Academy- This academy was established in year 1984 at Bhopal. Its purpose is to promote and preserve Sanskrit literature in Madhya Pradesh, honor of Sanskrit scholars, collection of rare Sanskrit manuscripts, conservation and publication etc. Various national-state level awards in this area are also provided by this academy

9.Archeology and Archives Museum- This was established in 1956 at Bhopal. This secures and surveys the scattered archeological wealth of Madhya Pradesh. This is a centralized institution and there are 5 regional, 7 state level, 14 district level and 6 local offices of this. It was reorganized in 1994.

10.MP Sindhi Sahitya Akademi: It was established in Bhopal in 1983. The academy organizes the Sahitya Akademi debate, thoughts, lectures, Sindhi Natya etc. in Sindhi language and publishes the Sindhi delegation magazine. 

11.Rajbhasha (state language) and Sanskrit Directorate- This was established in 1994 at Bhopal. This helps writers who are economically weak-National book section, Assets section, Ravindra Bhawan, fine Arts and Music colleges comes under its purview.

12.Madhya Pradesh Tribal Folk Art Council- This Council was established in 1980 at Bhopal. This council discharges the responsibility of the protection, documentation and development of tribals and folk music, folk dance and folk drama.  

13.Madhya Pradesh Urdu Academy- This was established in 1976 at bhopal . This academy organizes different literary programmes in the state for the improvement and conservation of Urdu literature.

14. Madhya Pradesh Hindi Granth Academy- This academy, which was established under the Higher Education Department of the State Government, at Bhopal in 1969. This Academy serves as the publication of university-level books. This academy also publishes bi-monthly magazine “RACHANA
