By BYJU'S Exam Prep

Updated on: September 25th, 2023

The first 30 elements are Hydrogen, Helium, Lithium, Beryllium, Boron, Carbon, Nitrogen, Oxygen, Fluorine, Neon, Sodium, Magnesium, Aluminium, Silicon, Phosphorous, Sulfur, Chlorine, Argon, Potassium, Calcium, Scandium, Titanium, Vanadium, Chromium, Manganese, Iron, Cobalt, Nickel, Copper and Zinc in the periodic table.

The periodic table is organized into elements, which are substances composed of atoms with the same number of protons in their atomic nuclei. There are currently 118 known elements, with the first 92 occurring naturally on Earth and the rest being synthetic elements created in laboratories.

What is an Element?

A substance that can not be broken down into any other simpler substances is known as Element. Everything that exists in this universe consists of an atom of one or more elements. Every element is made up of its own type of atoms. Hence, the elements are very unique in their own way.

Types Of Elements

There are four types of elements in the periodic table as follows- Metals are solid metals with malleability and Non-metals can either be solid, liquid, or glass. Whereas, Metalloids are elements that have properties in between both metals and non-metals and noble gases are separate classes and they don’t react with other elements. Check out a few examples of various types of elements here-

  • Metals – example: Silver(Ag), Iron(Fe)
  • Non-metals -example: Oxygen(O), Carbon(C)
  • Metalloids -example: Silicon(Si), Germanium(Ge)
  • Noble Gases -example: Helium(He), Neon(Ne)
