West Bengal Civil Service (WBCS) Examination is one of the most prestigious recruitment exams of the State. State Public Service Commission conducts this recruitment examination every year. So, a large number of talented candidates compete themselves in the examination to become part of state administration. As the competition level of the examination is always on higher notes, it requires some good preparation methodology, and also you have to do hard work as well as some smart work. Revision is considered one of the most important parts of the preparation strategies.

This article will help you to understand the importance of Revision for the WBCS Preparation.

There is a proverb here, “Reading a Book Once Inform you, Reading a Book hundred times Transform you”. So, it is never advisable for the aspirants to read many books and sources. But important is to refer to only a handful of books and sources and revise them multiple times.

Why Revision is the Key for WBCS Exam?

To revise the WBCS exam syllabus, it is highly important to follow the given methods.

  • For an in-depth understanding of the subject matter
  • Helps in memory building
  • Helps to increase accuracy by minimizing errors
  • Boost confidence

Let’s discuss some scientifically proven popular techniques used worldwide for revision purposes:

Common Revision Methods for WBCS Exam

  • Generally, students follow this method during their entire exam preparation period. As it is a common or regular practice and very popular among students, a huge number of students apply this for their preparation.
  • Aspirants make a study routine for the first five days of the week, starting with Monday to Friday, and keep the rest of the two days for the Revision of what they have studied in those five days.
  • This method is very much useful while aspirants are in the midst of completing their syllabus. By this, they can revise the previous chapters as well as learn new chapters also.

Advance Revision Methods

  • This technique is basically a frequent revision practice. This differs from the common methods in time management for WBCS exam preparation. Here, the time between the initial reading and its Revision is closer. It stressed a frequent reading of the same topic with not more than a 5 to 6 days gap between the first and the second readings, thus helping in building the memorizing power of the aspirants.
  • Suppose in this method, one studied Fundamental Rights of Indian polity on Monday then revised it again on Wednesday and practiced MCQs, again the same topic on Saturday of the same week and so on, a gap between 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 and 21 days. The first time the topic will be much harder for the aspirants, but as Revision goes on, it will become easier. The brain will be habituated to hold more and more information.
  • This method is highly impactful if it can be followed in a time-bound manner by any WBSC aspirant.

Apart from these few short techniques can also be pivotal for Revision, such as:

Mind Mapping Methods

Here, diagrams or algorithmic structures have been made to revise. Headings of the main topic have been written in the middle of a page, and then associated subtopics have been written, and try to recollect the information.

Memory Hooks Methods

Here, information associated with someone is used for memorizing events, data, etc. Like date of birth of an aspirant can use to memorize a historical event.

Key Points for WBSC Strategic Revision

Every aspirant plans his revision techniques and timing according to their memorizing capacity; someone needs more time to remember, someone needs less, so this will be different from their friends or others. Here are some key points that you must check for a strategic revision for the WBCS exam.

  • Usage of a Highlighter pen, Bookmark cards will help to shape your Revision in a less time-consuming way.
  • Always maintain a diary or a small copy where you will write down the topics you need to revise so that you never forget to do so.
  • Few topics like years of Events in History, Important Mathematical Formulas, Articles of the Constitution, Current Economic data, etc., are difficult to memorize; this information requires frequent Revision. In those cases, an aspirant follows the wall stick method, where they can make pages written with such information using different colours and fonts and stick those in the front wall of their study table so that they can revise them frequently every day.
  • Always make your notes to the point and precise so that you never feel bored while revising.
  • Never get confused by too many books, materials, and sources you will use in the time of Revision. Always be selective, and following up on one or two good books will be sufficient.
  • Sometimes we need to take the help of two or more books as references for a different topic as the vastness of the syllabus is huge. In that case, we must create a chart, where it will be written that which book we have referred for a particular topic so that in the time of Revision we must not engage a huge time.
  • As most of the papers of the West Bengal Civil Service examination are MCQ in nature, Solving of MCQ and revising these again and again will boost the candidate’s confidence to score high in the examination.
  • For optional papers, students should make precise notes after an in-depth study of the subject matter a couple of times and then start revising these after particular time intervals.
  • Giving mock Tests and revising of previous year’s papers before the preliminary and mains examination is highly required for minimizing error or increasing accuracy.
  • Give yourself a break of 10 to 15 minutes after revising a particular topic or chapter so that Revision never feels like a boring task.
  • Group study will help students to complete their preparation by acquiring in-depth knowledge and Revision.
  • Following up a healthy lifestyle, balanced diet, ample amount of rest, regular exercise will also help the body to get energy while revising.

Try to execute the above methods subject to the availability of your timing and needs. Remember, “Revision…Revision…and Revision” will help you to reach the top of the staircase of your dreams.
