Norway ranks first in the Human Development Index according to the Human Development Report 2020, followed by Switzerland and Australia. India slipped from 130 in 2020 to 131 in 2022 in the Human Development Index (HDI). The index is prepared considering Life expectancy at birth, Expected years of schooling, Mean years of schooling, Gross national income (GNI), and per capita carbon emission.

The Human Development Report Office for the United Nations Development Program publishes the Human Development Index. It ranked Norway at the top of the list. The top ten positions are dominated by European countries, with 8 out of 10 being European countries.

- Between 1990 and 2019, India’s mean years of schooling climbed by 3.5 years, while predicted years of education increased by 4.7 years.
- India’s per capita income climbed by more than 250% between 1990 and 2018.
- China and Sri Lanka, which rank higher than India in the neighboring nations, were at 85 and 71, respectively.
