During his first term, the Modi government launched the “Adopt a Heritage Scheme – Apni Dharohar, Apni Pehchaan” project, which invited public and private companies to become “Monument Mitras” of the country’s heritage sites.

The scheme aimed to provide basic amenities such as cleanliness, drinking water, sound, and lighting, among other things. The Adopt a Heritage Scheme is primarily a non-profit initiative where adoption is based on its unique vision and proposal, with no cash bid involved in the project.

What is Adopt a Heritage Scheme?

The President of India launched the scheme on World Tourism Day, i.e., 27 September 2017. The Adopt a Heritage Scheme allowed public and private sector enterprises to acquire top heritage areas of India and enhance tourism activities there.

Adopt a Heritage Scheme – Amenities

The Archaeological Survey of India delivers essential facilities to those who visit the heritage sites shielded centrally.
