GATE EE Selection Process 2023

GATE EE selection process comprises a written exam for which lakhs of candidates appear. It is a national level exam taken by candidates from across the country. The written exam will be conducted by IIT Kanpur which is also the organising body of the GATE EE exam. The score obtained in the GATE EE exam should qualify for the cutoff score. Those who manage to clear the cutoff will be selected for further steps.

Candidates have to apply to the individual institutes/universities as per the admission notification. It should be noted that IIT will not conduct common counselling as admissions to the NITs are done through the CCMT (Centralised Counselling for M.Tech/M.Plan). Candidates who qualify for the exam are required to apply online for CCMT. A minimum of 70% weightage will be given to the performance in the GATE EE test/ interview-based selection procedure and the remaining will be given to the candidate’s performance in test/interview and/or academic record. It should be noted that the admitting institutes could prescribe minimum passing marks in the test/interview

Normalisation of marks in the GATE EE Exam

The abilities are checked uniformly in all the sessions of the multi-session GATE EE exam. It is justified since the number of candidates that appear in multi-session papers in GATE EE is large and the procedure of allocation of session to candidates is random. The number of candidates appearing in each session of the GATE EE exam is of the same order of magnitude in the same multi-session paper.
