The UPPSC Selection Process 2023 has been published by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) in its official notification. The UP PCS exam shall be conducted by the State Commission to recruit Provincial Civil Service (PCS) Officers, and therefore the UPPSC selection process must be thoroughly comprehended by the candidates.

UPPSC Selection Process comprises a three-stage structure: Prelims, Mains and Interview. Each stage is different from the others. The results and cut-off for each stage are released separately. Candidates who clear all the stages of the recruitment process shall be appointed for the vacancies to be announced this year.

UPPSC Selection Process 2023

The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission will be conducting the first stage of the UPPSC selection process, i.e. the Prelims, on 14th May 2023. Thus, only the candidates fulfilling the UPPSC PCS eligibility criteria will be allowed to appear in the entire PCS selection process.

The UPPSC selection process begins with the online application after the annual release of the UPPSC 2023 Notification. The application process started on 3rd March and will close on 6th April 2023. The candidates will have to first appear for Prelims which will be the first stage in the selection process. Once the candidates are through this stage, the qualified candidates will be called for the second stage of Mains examination followed by an Interview.

UPPSC Selection Process 2023: Prelims

The Preliminary exam is the first step in the UPPSC selection process. All applicants who satisfy the eligibility requirements are required to take the Prelims. In the Preliminary round, applicants must meet the UPPSC cut-off set by the exam conducting authorities to make it to the next selection stage, the Mains exam. The first stage of Prelims is composed of two papers out of which the second paper is qualifying in nature. 33% of the total marks are required in this paper to qualify for the second stage.

The Prelims exam in the UPPSC selection process will be objective type and will have a total of 250 questions carrying 400 marks. An important point to note is that there will also be a negative marking where 1/3rd of the total marks will be deducted on every incorrect attempt.

Note that the marks obtained in Paper 2 are just qualifying in nature, and the marks scored in Paper 1 are considered for UPPSC Prelims Merit List.

UPPSC Mains Selection Process 2023: Mains

The UP PCS Mains exam is the second level of the UPPSC selection process. Only the candidates who have been shortlisted based on their Prelims score are allowed to appear for the Mains exam. Recently, there have been some changes in the Mains level of the UPPSC selection process.

  • As opposed to 6 papers, now there will be 8 papers.
  • The four GS papers have been increased to 6 by replacing the two optional subjects.
  • The two newly-added papers will be focused on the knowledge of Uttar Pradesh.
  • The two papers on General Hindi and Essay writing remain the same.

UPPSC Interview Selection 2023: Interview

The candidates who qualify in the Prelims and Mains are selected to participate in the Interview stage of the UPPSC Selection Process 2023. The interview is the final stage of the selection criteria, and the candidates are finally selected on the basis of their Interview scores along with the scores obtained in Mains.

  • The Interview stage of the UPPSC selection process carries 100 marks.
  • At the time of the interview, applicants must bring all original certificates.
  • All credentials are checked at this time, as are all statements made by the applicants.
  • The UPPSC interview is undertaken by the interview boards that have been created specifically for this purpose.

Following the UPPSC interview, a final merit list is generated by combining the main exam scores and the interview score. As a result, the final merit list is created, with the last candidate's marks serving as the cut-off for all other candidates.
