Infosys Limited, India's second-largest software services provider, is an Indian Multinational Information company headquartered in Bangalore that delivers business consulting, information technology, and outsourcing services. Infosys was established on 2nd July 1981 in Pune. Large infrastructure and beautiful surroundings in its campus make this company unique.

The Mysore training campus of Infosys is the most beautiful training campus with excellent trainers. Employees receive training on their respective domains for a couple of months(depending upon the domain). You can easily find peacocks roaming around freely on the campus. All the facilities, including accommodation, food, stationery, are available inside the campus. Infosys puts a lot of effort into the welfare of its employees. They have Traditional Days in the office, Festival Celebration, DJ Nights and many more.

Infosys also provides software development, maintenance and independent validation services to finance, insurance, manufacturing, and other domains. Finacle is one of the most known products of Infosys, which provides a universal banking solution with several retail and corporate banking modules. At present, the CEO of Infosys is Salil Parekh.

  • Infosys derived its name from Information Systems. Like every company, Infosys also has its rising story. The company was built by the seven former employees of Patni Computer Systems. They became founders and cofounders of the company. They are:
    • N. R. Narayana Murthy, Founder of Infosys
    • Nandan M. Nilekani, Co-founder of Infosys
    • S. Gopalakrishnan, CofounderCofounder of Infosys
    • S. D. Shibulal, CofounderCofounder of Infosys
    • K. Dinesh, CofounderCofounder of Infosys
    • N. S. Raghvan, CofounderCofounder of Infosys
    • Ashok Arora, CofounderCofounder of Infosys
  • They started the company with a small amount of $250 in 1981 from the front room of Narayana Murthy's house. Sudha Murthy, the wife of Narayana Murthy, supported and helped her husband a lot by giving him the money to start his business. Their house became their office, and the company was named Infosys Consultants.
  •  Initially, they didn't have computers as they couldn't afford them. It took them two years to get their computers. It took a lot of hard work and dedication to build a multinational company from a small room to approximately 200 centres worldwide.
  • The first model of computer they purchased was Data General 32-bit MV8000.

Infosys during Covid - 19

  • During the pandemic, Infosys did not lay off any employees. It suspended the hiring process and put increments on hold.
  • Infosys rapidly mobilized laptops and desktops with secured access to virtual work environments. The company provided high-speed broadband connectivity for its remote workers and expanded its virtual private bandwidth ten times.
  • Infosys partnered with hospitals for vaccines, testing and medical care. If any employee contracts the virus, they are being provided with three weeks additional paid leaves.
  • Infosys also provided support to the employees' families who succumbed to Covid by providing them financial support and even exploring training and job opportunities for next of kin wherever feasible.

About Narayana Murthy:

Narayana Murthy remembers India was extremely business-unfriendly in the early 1980s. They were struggling for years. They stayed at inexpensive hotels. They didn't have cars, took buses, and sometimes they walked too.

  • Narayana Murthy believes he had history on his side. After the independence of India, there was a deliberate government policy to encourage the development of technology, resulting in a large number of engineers looking for employment.
  • The first impression is the last. Mr Murthy believes that the first customer is most important. According to him, they can make or break a startup. When Infosys was launched, the company prioritized its customer's requirements and worked solely to fulfil their needs. One customer at a time. He said, "We were selling on our competencies, on our commitment, on our value system, and because this company knew us…we had no issue at all".
  • Infosys started growing at an accelerated speed after the 1990s. Due to India's early economic policies, the company went through slow growth.

But their hard work, tirelessness paid off. For Narayana Murthy, his company's success cannot be measured by the figures and revenues it generates but by the happiness it creates. He believes that his company's impact extends not just to its employees but to their families, too; as he says, "the children of those families have new opportunities… new hopes, new confidence. And that's what makes me sleep well."
