GEOGRAPHY OF RAJASTHAN:
Physical features: Shape, Area, Size, Boundaries, and Location:
Its total area is 3,42,239 sq. km. which is equivalent to about 10.41 % area of India. Rajasthan is the largest state, is followed by Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh, etc. length of Rajasthan State is 826 km. from north to south and 869 km from west to east. The land boundary of Rajasthan is about 5920 km. long.
Soils of Rajasthan:
The Rajasthan soils have developed under the arid and humid climate over the bedrocks of complex nature, predominantly under the process of lateralization. The tints, chemical composition, texture, structure, reaction, and plant food contents bear large scale as well as local variations, according to environments. In India, two systems of soil classification are in common use, they are (i) Old system and (ii) the New comprehensive system.
Agriculture in Rajasthan:
Availability of land for extension of cultivation in the command areas of irrigation projects, pressure of population on land, untapped underground water resources and adequate scope for improving the existing irrigation facilities and potential underground water resources and essentially good soil conditions are the favorable factors that indicate the direction for planned development of agriculture in the state.
Types of Industries in Rajasthan:
- Agro-based industries: Cotton Textile, Sugar, Oil and Vegetable oil, etc. mainly fall in this category. This also includes processed food, dal, and drinks.
- Forest-based industries: These industries are allied to agriculture industries. Furniture, Herbs, Tendu leaves, Mahua, Khas, Bamboo, Gum, Har, Bahera, Aonla, Kattha. The bark of trees can be termed as forest-based industries which are amply developed in the state.
- Livestock-based Industries: Nearly 12% of the cattle wealth of India is available in the State of Rajasthan. Dairy farming, fisheries, poultry, wool, tannery, etc. are included in this type.
- Mineral-based industries: Rajasthan state ranks second with respect to a number of minerals.
HISTORY OF RAJASTHAN:
The name of Rajasthan comes in the mind of a vivid picture of battlefields and crossed swords, the holy flames of the Johar pyre of queen Padmini and the heroic deeds of innumerable numbers of fearless brave and self-sacrificing men, soldiers, and kings who by their historic acts of bravery, sacrifice, and love for land have added immense glory and prestige to the history of Rajasthan.
History of Freedom struggle in Rajasthan:
The situation before the 1857 struggle movement was critical because of –
(i) downfall of the central rule of Mughals after the death of Aurangzeb,
(ii) King Man Singh of Jodhpur refused to accept the conditions of the treaty,
(iii) the Britishers dethroned the Maharawal Dungarpur,
(iv) the murder of Captain Black in Jaipur,
(v) economic exploitation of the people by the Britishers
(vi) imposition of Christianity over the people,
(vii) efforts made to accept western ideologies by the people,
(viii) stopping Sati pratha,
(ix) neglect the special right and traditional rights of the feudal,
(x) interference by the Britishers in the internal affairs of the States,
(xi) efforts to be made to finish the local traditional customs and
(xii) not to take steps against poverty, unemployment, and famine.
