  • The City of Los Angeles has officially designated September 17th Squid Game Day in recognition of the achievements of the South Korean Netflix series.

  • "Squid Game" was nominated for 14 Emmy Awards in July and is the first non-English language series to earn a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series.
  • It was also the first Korean and first non-English language series to win a Screen Actors Guild Award.
  • The Squid Game retained its place as the most-watched Netflix original of all time and was "the first Korean series on Netflix to reach number one in the US.
  • The squid game successfully introduced diverse aspects of Korean culture to audiences not only in the US but around the world.
  • The squid game has received nominations and awards at the several US and international festivals.

2022 SCO Summit

  • The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit for the year 2022 will be held in Uzbekistan from September 15 to 16, 2022.

key points:

  • The SCO summit for the year 2022 will be held in Samarkand.
  • The SCO summit in Uzbekistan will focus on reviewing the group's activities over the past two decades and identifying areas of potential for multilateral cooperation.
  • This is the first individual summit after the 2019 SCO summit held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
  • The 22nd meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will be attended by the leaders of the SCO Member States, the Observer States, the Secretary General of the SCO, the Executive Director of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure.
  • During the summit, Iran will also be formally included in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
  • After the Samarkand summit, India will chair the SCO.
  • The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a Eurasian political, economic, and security grouping established on June 15, 2001, headquartered in Beijing.
  • The members of the SCO include China, Russia, India, and Pakistan, as well as 4 Central Asian countries - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan.
  • The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is the world's largest regional grouping, covering approximately 60 percent of Eurasia, 40 percent of the global population, and more than 30 percent of the global GDP.

Ministry of Jal Shakti Announces Winners of 'Water Heroes: Share Your Stories Contest'

  • The 'Water Heroes: Share Your Stories' competition has been launched by the Department of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti.

  • The third edition of the 'Water Heroes: Share Your Stories' contest was launched on 1 December 2021 and will end on 30 November 2022 on the MyGov portal.
  • The first edition of the 'Water Heroes: Share Your Stories' was launched from 1 September 2019 to 30 August 2020 and the second edition of the 'Water Heroes: Share Your Stories' contest was launched from 19 September 2020 to 31 August 2021. For August, the six winners of the 'Water Heroes': Share Your Stories contest will receive a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and a certificate.
  • The initiative aims to promote the value of water in general and support nationwide efforts on water conservation and sustainable development of water resources.
  • To motivate the people of the country to adopt the objective of water conservation.
  • The 'Water Heroes: Share Your Stories' contest is held every month and details can be accessed through the MyGov portal.
  • Participants have to post their success stories on water conservation impact in the form of 1–5-minute videos with a write-up of 300 words and attach some photographs.
  • The participants will have to share their videos on the MyGov portal.

IRCTC to start Navratri Special Tourist Train

  • IRCTC Limited has announced the beginning of the Navratri Special Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra Yatra in the Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train, similar to the Ramayana Circuit.
  • On September 30, 2022, the special tourist train will depart for Katra for the first time.
  • One of the most popular temples in the nation, Vaishno Devi Temple receives thousands of visitors each year.
  • The Safdarjung Railway Station in Delhi will be where the train departs towards Katra.
  • Tourists from Ghaziabad, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Ambala, Sirhind, and Ludhiana are the main target audience for this travel package.
  • This vacation package's total cost includes train travel, an overnight stay in an air-conditioned hotel, meals, all bus transfers, sightseeing, travel insurance, and guide services.
  • The Ministry of Railways established Bharat Gaurav trains to run through popular tourist destinations and to advance themed travel.
  • BRIDGE TRAIN OF HINDU The fully air-conditioned train is renowned for its exquisite interior design, which gives passengers comfort.
  • In June 2022, the Bharat Gaurav Train was launched to publicize the Ramayana Yatra route.

Uttar Pradesh is tops in India, with 8462 lakes developed under Mission Amrit Sarovar

  • Uttar Pradesh has become the first state in India to create 8,642 Amrit Sarovar (lakes) in India.

  • Amrit Sarovar is an ambitious mission launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which aims to conserve water for the future.
  • Madhya Pradesh has been placed in second place, Jammu and Kashmir in third place, Rajasthan in fourth place, and Tamil Nadu in fifth place in the list.
  • Lakhimpur Kheri of Uttar Pradesh has got the first position in the state by constructing 256 Amrit Sarovar.
  • In the list, Gorakhpur has secured the second position by creating 245 lakes and Pratapgarh has secured the third position by creating 231 lakes.
  • 15,497 Amrit Sarovar have been identified in different Gram Panchayats, out of which 8,462 Amrit Sarovar have already been developed.
  • This Amrit Sarovar is twice the total number of Amrit Sarovar developed in Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu collectively.
  • Uttar Pradesh is the only state in the country that has developed a large number of Amrit Sarovar.

  • Raktdaan Amrit Mahotsav is a nationwide voluntary blood donation campaign that will be organized from 17th September to 1st October this year.
  • This special blood donation drive will be organized under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
  • The registration for the Raktdaan Amrit Mahotsav can be done using the e-Raktkosh portal and Aarogya Setu App.
  • October 1 is celebrated as National Voluntary Blood Donation Day and the Raktdaan Amrit Mahotsav will be concluded on this occasion.
  • The objective of the nationwide campaign is to collect 1 lakh units of blood from voluntary blood donors in a day.
  • Raktdaan Amrit Mahotsav is an attempt to raise public awareness about the importance of regular non-remunerative voluntary blood donation.
  • The main objective of the Raktdaan Amrit Mahotsav is to create a pool of voluntary donors so that they can be easily accessed when required and to reduce the need for the replacement of blood donations.
  • At present, there are more than 3,900 blood banks in India with adequate storage capacity and facilities for processing.

Norwegian Central Bank Develops National Digital Currency Using Ethereum

  • Norway's central bank Norges Bank has made significant progress in its efforts to develop a digital currency by publishing open-source code for the country's central bank digital currency (CBDC) sandbox based on Ethereum technology.

key points:

  • CBDC is a type of electronic fiat currency backed by the central bank, CBDC can be created on a blockchain network, however, in Norway CBDC is built on Ethereum.
  • The CBDC sandbox in Norway has been created to provide a way to communicate with the test network.
  • Ethereum Wallet MetaMask is not yet supported by open-source code.
  • Sandbox has a unique interface and network monitoring programs like BlockScout and Grafana.
  • According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) report, 97 nations, or more than half of the world's central banks, are experimenting with developing CBDCs.
  • According to the IMF, only Nigeria and the Bahamas have so far fully launched their CBDC initiatives.
  • According to a recent report by data analytics company Visual Capitalist, in a controlled environment, the nation has started the technical development and preliminary testing of CBDCs.

  • The Eighth Schedule also includes the Hindi language.
  • The Devanagari script is used to write Hindi, the fourth most widely spoken language in the world.
  • By Turkish invaders in the early 11th century, the language of the area surrounding the Indus River was given the name Hindi, or "Language of the Indus River Land."
  • English is the second official language of India, with Hindi serving as the first.
  • In the eleventh century, the Devanagari script as we know it today was created.
