There are 16 administrative districts in Nagaland. Nagaland is a state located in northeastern India. It shares borders with Manipur to the south, Assam to the west, Arunachal Pradesh to the north and Myanmar to the east. The state of Nagaland was formed on 1 December 1957 with only three districts: Kohima, Tuensang and Mokukchung.

There are a total of 16 districts in Nagaland. These districts each have their listed headquarters and are further divided into sub-districts and tehsils. Each district is governed by a District Magistrate or Collector, along with the assistance of a Superintendent of Police. Here is some more information about the Nagaland districts -
- At the time of the formation of the Nagaland state, there were only three districts.
- The District Magistrate is responsible for managing the administrative affairs of his/her respective district.
- A Superintendent of Police holds the responsibility of looking after the affairs of law and order in the districts of Nagaland.

New Districts of Nagaland
The state of Nagaland was initially formed with just three districts, namely, Kohima, Tuensang and Mokukchung. However, more and more Nagaland districts were added t in the following years. Recently, a few more districts have been added to Nagaland. Here are the details of the new districts of Nagaland
- On 20 January 2021, Noklak District was created. This district was previously a sub-district of Tuensang.
- On 18 December 2021, three new Nagaland districts were created: Chümoukedima and Niuland were carved from Dimapur and Tseminyü was carved from Kohima.
- On 19 January 2022, the Shamator district was carved from Tuensang.
Proposed District
Besides the mentioned new districts of Nagaland, there are frequent demands of creating another new district in Nagaland. There is a demand to establish the existing sub-district of Meluri as a full-fledged district. However, till now, there has been no indication of creating Meluri as a separate district of Nagaland.
