Proposed Districts of Uttarakhand

There is a widespread demand for creating more districts in Uttarakhand. However, as of now, no additional districts have been added to the state. Here, we have shared the details of the proposed districts of Uttarakhand

  • 2011 - In 2011, the elected BJP government proposed the creation of 5 more districts. These proposed districts were Ranikhet, Roorkee, Kotdwar, Yamunotri and Didihat.
  • 2016 - The elected INC government proposed 6 new districts of Uttarakhand, namely, Kashipur, Roorkee, Rishikesh, Gairsain, Ramnagar and Narendranagar.
  • There have been other frequent demands for creating new districts in Uttarakhand. The other frequently proposed districts include Gangotri, Chakrata, Haldwani, Dharchula, Karnprayag, Tharali, Tyuni, Thalisain, Ghastoli, Meelam, Dugtu, Syaldey, Munsiari, etc.
