There are 33 Chhattisgarh districts spread around a total area of 135,192 square kilometres. The state of Chhattisgarh originally had only 16 districts. Eventually, in the following years, several more districts were carved out of the existing Chhattisgarh districts. The newest district of Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai was added to the state in 2022.

How Many Chhattisgarh Districts

Chhattisgarh has 33 districts in total. These districts are headed by the District Magistrate, with the assistance of a Superintendent of Police, and the state police force. Here is some more information about the Chhattisgarh districts

  • When Chhattisgarh was formed on 1 November 2000, there were only 16 districts in the state.
  • On 11 May 2007, the districts of Bijapur and Narayanpur were carved out.
  • On 1 Jan 2012, nine new districts of Chhattisgarh were formed.
  • On 10 February 2020, the district of Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi was established.
  • In September 2022, five new Chhattisgarh districts were established, namely, Manpur-Mohla, Sarangarh-Bilaigarh and Manendragarh and Sakti.
  • The latest district of Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai was added on 3 September 2022.
