There are two districts in Goa - North Goa and South Goa. Goa is an Indian state located in the Konkan region, on the southwest coast of the country. This state was a former part of the Portuguese territories in India. Goa was announced as an independent state on 30 May 1987 and was reorganized into the present two districts.

How Many Districts in Goa

There are only two districts in Goa. Goa used to be one of the many Portuguese territories in India. This colonial rule by the Portuguese lasted till 1961 in Goa. Once Goa became an independent state, it was reorganized into the two districts of North Goa and South Goa.

The districts of Goa are further divided into subdivisions and talukas. While the Goa districts are headed by a Commissioner and District Magistrate, the subdivisions and talukas are supervised by Deputy Collectors and mamlatdars.

North Goa is one of the districts of Goa. It spans around an area of 1736 square kilometres and has a total population of 818,008. The North Goa district is surrounded by the Arabian Sea to the west, the South Goa district to the south, Maharashtra to the North and Karnataka to the east.
