How Many Districts in Meghalaya
The total number of districts of Meghalaya is 12. These districts are supervised by a number of officials. For each district, a District Magistrate or a Commissioner is appointed, who works along with a Superintendent of Police to look after the situation of law and order in the district.
When the state of Meghalaya was separated from Assam on 21 January 1972, there were only two Meghalaya districts: United Khasi Hills & Jaintia Hills district and the Garo Hills district. However, over time, the total number of districts of Meghalaya has increased to 12.
