The total number of districts in MP is 52. Each of these districts serves as a unique administrative area and is governed by a District Magistrate or Collector. The Collector delegates tasks and orders to the Superintendent of Police, who is responsible for managing the law and order situation in each MP district.

However, the total number of districts in the state will rise to 55 soon. In 2020, the Madhya Pradesh Cabinet announced that 3 new MP districts will be created.

Districts in MP and their Administrative Divisions
The districts of MP are group into 10 administrative divisions so that the affairs of administration can be carried out with ease. We have listed the 10 divisions and the MP districts that come under them here -
- Ujjain - The Ujjain division consists of the Dewas, Neemuch, Shajapur, Ratlam, Agar Malwa, Mandsaur and Ujjain districts.
- Bhopal - This division consists of Raisen, Sehore, Rajgarh, Vidisha and Bhopal districts in MP.
- Indore - The Indore division consists of Barwani, Indore, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Burhanpur, Dhar, Khargone and Khandwa districts.
- Chambal - This division consists of 3 MP districts, namely, Bhind, Morena and Sheopur.
- Gwalior - This division consists of Shoknagar, Datia, Guna, Gwalior and Shivpuri districts.
- Rewa - The Rewa division consists of the districts of Satna, Singrauli, Rewa and Sidhi.
- Jabalpur - This division consists of Balaghat, Jabalpur, Mandla, Seoni, Dindori, Narsinghpur, Katni and Chhindwara districts.
- Narmadapuram - This division consists of the Harda, Betul and Narmadapuram districts in MP.
- Shahdol - The Shahdol division consists of Umaria, Anuppur and Shahdol districts.
- Sagar - This administrative division consists of Chhatarpur, Panna, Tikamgarh, Niwari, Sagar and Damoh districts.
Proposed Districts in MP
On 19 March 2020, the state cabinet of Madhya Pradesh approved a bill for the creation of the following three MP districts
- Chachaura district
- Maihar district
- Nagda district
Although these districts have not been created yet, it is speculated that they will be established soon. After the creation of the three new districts, the total number of districts in MP will raise from 52 to 55.
