The Territorial Army Selection Process 2023 is different for civilians and Ex-servicemen. The ex-services man selection process under Territorial Army recruitment involves only 2 stages, i.e., the Army Headquarter Selection Board test and medical examination. Whereas for civilians, the Territorial Army officer selection process has three stages: Preliminary Interview Board PIB), Services Selection Board (SSB), and medical examination. The candidates must crack each stage of the Territorial Army selection process successfully.

Territorial Army Selection Process 2023

As per the Territorial Army selection process, all registered candidates will be called to attend the written exam. Candidates who pass the exam are contacted by their local Territorial Army Preliminary Interview Board (PIB). After final selection, qualified candidates will take further exams at a Service Selection Board (SSB) and Medical Board. Check the selection process for both below:

Territorial Army Selection Process For Civilians

The selection process for civilians in the Territorial Army Exam involves three stages. The first is PIB which involves a written exam. The second stage is SSB which is a personality test. And the final stage is medical. The different stages are explained below.

  • Shortlisted candidates will be called for the screening test to the respective territorial army headquarters for a Preliminary Interview Board (PIB) and written exam. The board will check all the essential documents.
  • After clearing the PIB, candidates will be called for the SSC Interview. Here all the candidates will be tested for physical and mental abilities.
  • After clearing SSB, all the candidates will be called for a medical examination.

Ex-servicemen Territorial Army Selection Process

The Ex-servicemen selection involves two stages only. Firstly they are tested by ASB (Army Headquarters Selection Board), where their mental wellbeing is checked. The venue of the ASB is the Additional Directorate General Territorial Army, Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defense, ‘L’ Block, Church Road, New Delhi – 110 001. After the ASB, candidates must undergo a medical examination at army hospitals.

First Stage of Territorial Army Selection Process

The written exam is the first stage of the Territorial Army selection process and includes 2 papers. The written exam is part of PIB for civilian candidates. The exam details are given in the table below:

Marking Scheme

  • Correct Answer: +1
  • Incorrect Answer: -0.25

The written exam is further divided into two more sections having 50 questions with 50 marks. The time duration for each paper is 2 hours. Check the detailed exam pattern for both papers in the table.

Territorial Army Qualifying Marks

There are minimum qualifying marks for each paper in the written exam of the Territorial Army. Candidates need to score a minimum of 40% marks, i.e., 40 marks on each paper. And also, they have to achieve 50% (100 marks) marks in the whole exam.

Second Stage of Territorial Army Selection Process

According to the Territorial Army selection process, all the candidates who clear the PIB must appear for the SSB Interview. Here candidates have to go through various Territorial Army physical and mental tests. Candidates need to take a few documents with them for the SSB interview.   • All educational qualification certificates.
  • Physical fitness certificate from a registered MBBS Doctor.
  • Copy of Identity proof with photographs (Voter ID/ PAN Card/ Passport/ Driving License etc.).
  • Domicile certificate.
  • Age proof.
  • Service certificate by candidates employed in Central Govt./ Union Territory/ State Govt./ Semi Govt./ Private Sector Authenticated by Head Office.
