CDS 2 Exam Analysis 2019 (8th September) : The CDS 2 2019 Exam was conducted on 8th September 2019 for recruiting Officers in Indian Army, Indian Navy & Air Force. The English Paper was held from 9 AM to 11 AM, General Knowledge Paper was held from 12 PM to 2 PM today and is now over. CDS Exam Analysis 2019: English Paper

The English paper of CDS 2 2019 was held from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AMIt consists of a total of 120 questions of 100 marks. The Paper was easy when compared with the CDS 1 2019 Exam.

Major Changes:

  • This time Spelling Correction and Parts of Speech was aksed in UPSC CDS Exam.
  • This time no Filling the blanks was asked in the English Paper of CDS 2 2019.

Spelling Correction

  • 7 Questions were asked from this topic.
  • You need to identify the correct option from the given choices. 
  • For instance: Find the correct spelling from the option:
  • (a) Accommodate (b) Acomodate (c) Accomdate (d) Acomodait

Synonyms

  • A total of 10 Questions were asked
  • In the given sentence, a word was highlighted and students were required to identify the word which was most similar in meaning to the word underlined from the options given.
  • For instance:
    (a) The properties of the family have been impounded by the order of the court. (Confiscated/Permitted/Sold/Put on hold)
  • (b) The Officer in charge of the operations has been impugned for the excesses. (Expelled/Rewarded/Challenged/Given allowance)

Ordering of Words in a Sentence

  • There were 13 questions from this topic.
  • sentence was divided into four different parts (consisting of set of words) and presented in jumbled form.
  • These jumbled parts had to be arranged by the students to form meaningful sentence.
  • For instance:
    while they are small (P), and do great things (Q), while they are easy (R), do the difficult things (S)
    (a) SRQP
    (b) PSQR
    (c) SRPQ
    (d) QPSR

Antonyms

  • 10 questions were asked on this topic.
  • Like Synonyms, word was highlighted in sentence and from the options, the students had to select the most opposite word to the given word.
  • For instance:
    Beauty lies in eyes of the beholder. (Allure/Charm/Inelegance/Ideal)

Ordering of Sentences

  • A total of 10 questions asked from Ordering of sentences.
  • Here only the first and the last sentence of passage was fixed and the order of the remaining 4 sentences was jumbled up.
  • Students were asked to arrange these sentences in the order, in order to form a logical passage.

Comprehension

  • 3 short passages were asked under the Comprehension questions, a total of 17 questions was asked from the Comprehension section).
  • We are sharing the themes of the passages asked in the exam:
    (a) Passage-1: Mankind experience of various evolutionary changes from primitive to Agricultural Stage
    (b) Passage-2: Various Land reform bills and amendments
    (c) Passage-3: Work Place Environment and surveys to check the effectivity of organisation
  • Direct questions were asked based on the passage given, which could be answered easily after reading the passage carefully.

Spotting Errors

  • 15 Questions were asked from Spotting errors.
  • This time a whole sentence was asked and then different parts were given in the options section and the students had to identify the part of the sentence which contained any error.
  • If the sentence was correct, option (d), i.e. No error, had to be marked by the students.
    For instance:
    No Struggle can ever succeeded without women participating side by side with men.
  • (a) No struggle can ever succeeded
  • (b) without women participation
  • (c) side by side with men
  • (d) No error

Cloze Comprehension

  • The examination asked 2 cloze comprehension questions, one with 10 questions and the other with 9 questions.
  • There were blanks in the passage and the candidates were required to pick from the given options the correct word, which could be used to fill those blanks to form a logical phrase and keep the passage flow.

Idioms and Phrases

  • 10 Questions were asked from Idioms and Phrases.
  • In the question, an idiom/phrase was given and the students had to choose the option that described the meaning of the given idiom correctly. For instance:
    Dirt Cheap
    (a) Extremely Cheap
    (b) Extremely Costly
    (c) Very Cheap person
    (d) Very Cheap item

Part of Speech

  • 10 Questions were asked from this topic. This was asked for the first time in the examination.
  • Students needed to identify the part of speech of the underlined words and check for appropriate expression.
  • For instance:
  • Rita eats her dinner quickly. (Verb/Preposition/Adjective/Adverb)
