TISSNET Selection Process

As per the previous year's trends, the TISSNET 2023 Selection Process will begin with an online exam. TISS releases the notification on its official website for TISSNET 2023. The candidates who will get the qualifying marks will be shortlisted for further rounds. The TISSNET Selection Process for the different M.A. courses includes the below 2 stages:

  • Stage 1: TISS National Entrance Test (TISS-NET)
  • Stage 2: TISS Online Assessments (OA)

Considering the official notification, TISSNET 2023 Selection Process includes the below two stages.

  • TISSNET Exam: The candidates who are thinking of joining TISS Campuses need to appear for TISSNET 2023.
  • Pre-Interview Tests (TISSMAT/TISSPAT): These two tests are conducted for individual programs.
  • Personal Interview (PI): The candidates who have cleared the cutoff can appear in this PI round.

Stage 1: Tata Institute of Social Sciences National Entrance Test (TISSNET)

TISS conducts TISSNET Exam once every year. It is a test for admissions into M.A. Programmes for candidates who are interested to join TISS to pursue a career in management and Social Science. It is a national-level exam, and the candidates can get an opportunity to study at 4 TISS Campuses in India: Mumbai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, and Tuljapur. The official notification for TISSNET Registration 2023 is released on the official website on 13 December 2022.

TISSNET is a common screening test for all the students interested in enrolling themselves in the TISS M.A Programmes. The basic overview of the TISSNET Exam Pattern is tabulated below.

Stage 2: Pre-Interview Tests (TISSMAT/TISSPAT) in TISSNET Selection Process

Candidates who qualify for the TISSNET with the required minimum marks will be able to proceed further with the Pre-Interview Tests, i.e TISSPAT and TISSMAT. The candidates who are interested to study M.A in Human Resource Management & Labour Relations and M.A in ODCL (Organisation Development, Change, and Leadership) in TISS Mumbai only have to qualify for TISSMAT to be shortlisted for further TISSNET Selection Process.

Stage 3: TISSNET Personal Interview

It is the last stage of the TISSNET Admission Process. The candidates who have been selected for PIT and GD are eligible to attend this last step of the TISSNET Selection Process. The panelists normally asked questions from the programs that are selected by the candidates. Note one thing the TISSNET Personal Interview round is normally held on the selected TISS campuses. If you applied for more than 1 campus then you have to travel to the respective campuses for this TISSNET Selection Process.

TISSNET Admission Process: Merit List Declaration

The final selection of the candidates is done based on their performances in all the stages of the TISSNET Selection Process. The final TISSNET Merit List will be announced after the entire process is over. The candidates who will clear all the above rounds will get their respective results along with the merit list.

  • Firstly, an open unreserved merit list (OML) will be made without considering the reservation category for TISSNET Selection Process 2023.
  • After considering OML, a separate list is also prepared which is a category-wise list that is prepared as per the Government of India / University Grants Commission regulations on the matter.
  • There will be three merit lists. If a candidate gets a place in the first preference, their name will not be there in the subsequent list with their other preference. Neither of their names will be on the subsequent waitlists.

Preparation of TISSNET Waitlist

An open Merit List or OML is prepared which consists of top scorers irrespective of their categories. This is done so as to give chance to meritorious students who get a low rank due to the lack of reservation in their category

  • After the OML of candidates, a different Category-wise Merit List (CML) keeping in mind the number of seats reserved for each category of students. The rules of reservation apply only in the preparation of the final TISSNET Merit List
  • Candidates who are listed in the first merit will not be retained back for the second or third wait-list
  • If a candidate is selected for his/her program of their preference, they will not be mentioned on the waitlist of any other program
  • Once the choice of programs is submitted, no alterations to that can be made
  • Candidates who are selected for the second or 3rd preference program shall be retained on the wait list for their first preference program
  • If the candidate is selected for first, second, and third or any two of the three programs, they shall be provided admission to the program of higher preference
  • If a candidate is selected in the second or third program and is on the waitlist and has been selected for the first program of preference, he/she shall be transferred to the 1st program of preference.

Tie-Breaking Rule for TISSNET

There are situations where there is a tie between 2 or more candidates in the TISSNET Admission Process for getting admission to a program. Given below are the situations where there can be a tie and the decider (tie-breaker) for that situation.

TISSNET 2023 Selection Process: Counseling Process

The candidates who are selected need to report to their respective campuses for document verification as per the admission timeline mentioned by the TISS Authorities.

  • Candidates are required to bring their documents for verification for counseling
  • If due for any reason the candidate is unable to attend the counseling on the mentioned date, time, and venue, he/she shall be deprived of admission to that program in that institute and strictly no correspondence shall be entertained in this regard.

Documents Required for TISSNET Counselling

While attending the counseling session for the Final TISSNET Admission Process the candidates have to carry the below documents for verification.

  • Original Mark sheets / Certificates (10th Standard, 12th Standard, and Graduation)
  • Category certificate to which a candidate belongs i.e. SC / ST / OBC / PH / etc.
  • Acceptance Letter
  • TISSNET Score Card
  • 5 photographs

FAQs on TISSNET Selection Process

  • TISS Authority starts TISSNET Selection Process to shortlist the candidates for different M.A. programs in TISS Campuses. It starts with the TISSNET Exam and is to be continued up to the release of the final merit list.

  • The candidates who are interested to study TISS have to appear for the TISSNET Exam. If they clear the cut-off then they will be called for the final interview process. The candidates who are interested in doing an M.A. in ODCL and HRM & LR have to appear for TISSMAT after qualifying for the TISSNET Exam.

  • Yes, if you are on the waitlist and already secured your seat in the 2nd or 3rd program of your choice, you will be allowed admission to the 1st program of your choice if you get selected for it.

  • The weightage structure for each round of the TISSNET Selection Process is given as follows:

    • TISSNET Score - 30% weightage
    • TISSMAT/TISSPAT Score - 40% weightage
    • OPI score - 30% weightage
  • No, for getting the final selection in a program, your name must be there on the Final Merit List. The candidates whose name is on the Final TISSNET Merit List will get admission to the M.A programs in TISS Campuses.
