Tata Institute of Social Science has prescribed the TISSNET Selection Procedure 2022 on its official website along with other notifications. The applicants who wish to apply for TISSNET must read the TISSNET selection process in detail to have a good understanding of the procedure and admission process.

The selection process begins with an online exam, the Tata Institute of Social Sciences National Entrance Test TISSNET. Admission into TISS includes the following 2 stages:

  • Stage 1- TISS National Entrance Test (TISS-NET)
  • Stage 2-  TISS Online Assessments (OA)

TISSNET Selection Stages 

TISSNET Selection Procedure 2022 includes two stages:

  1. National Entrance Test (TISSNET): Candidates need to appear for TISSNET 2022 
  2. Online Assessment (OA): This stage requires shortlisted candidates to appear in an interview round.

TISSNET Admission Process: Stage-wise details

Candidates appearing for TISSNET 2022 can have a look at the detailed selection process. Know all about the stages of the TISSNET Selection Process below. 

Stage 1: Tata Institute of Social Sciences National Entrance Test (TISSNET) 

Tata Institute of Social Sciences National Entrance Test (TISSNET) will be held on 26th February 2022. It is a test for admissions into Masters’ Programmes for students wanting to pursue a career in management and Social Science in one of the most sought after institutions that is TISS.

TISSNET 2022 is a national level Entrance Exam by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences that offers post-graduation courses at TISS. It is a common screening test for all the students wanting to enrol themselves in the Master’s Programme. TISSNET 2022 exam pattern is discussed below:

  • The duration of the exam is 100 minutes and 100 objective type questions shall be asked. 
  • No negative marking is done. .
  • The shortlisting process at this stage has no reservation rules. Rules related to the reservation shall be applied at the time of the final list.

Candidates who qualify the TISSNET 2022 CBT with the required minimum marks will be able to proceed further in the TISSNET selection process (Stage-2) which is discussed below:

TISSNET Selection Process Exam Dates 2022

Candidates who are going to appear in TISSNET 2022 will need to know all the important dates related to the TISSNET Selection process. Important dates under the selection process for TISSNET include exam day, TISSNET, TISSMAT/TISSPAT, and interview dates. TISSNET Merit List

The final selection will be as per the TISSNET merit list based on the performance of the candidates in all the stages of the TISSNET selection process. The TISSNET Merit List will be announced at the end. The candidates who have cleared all the above rounds will get to know their respective results with the release of the merit list.

  • Firstly, an open unreserved merit list (OML). This list is made without considering the reservation category
  • After considering OML, a separate list is also prepared which is a category-wise list that is prepared as per the Government of India / University Grants Commission regulations on the matter.
  • There will be three merit lists. If a candidate gets a place in the first preference, their name will not be there in the subsequent list with their other preference. Neither of their names will be on the subsequent waitlists.

TISSNET Waitlist Preparation

Open Merit List or OML is prepared which consists of top-scorers irrespective of their categories. This is done so as to give chance to meritorious students who get a low rank due to lack of reservation of their category

  • After OML of candidates, a different Category-wise Merit List (CML) keeping in mind the number of seats reserved for each category of students. The rules of reservations apply only in the preparation of the Final Merit List
  • Candidates who are listed in the first merit will not be retained back for 2nd or 3rd wait-list
  • If a candidate is selected for his/her program of their preference, they will not be mentioned in the waitlist of any other program
  • Once the choice of programs is submitted, no alterations to that can be made
  • Candidates who are selected for the 2nd or 3rd preference program shall be retained in the wait-list for their 1st preference program
  • If the candidate is selected for both 1st, 2nd, and 3rd or any two of the three programs, they shall be provided admission to the program of higher preference
  • If a candidate is selected in the 2nd or 3rd program and is in the wait-list and has been selected for the 1st program of preference, he/she shall be transferred to the 1st program of preference

There are situations where there is a tie among 2 or more candidates for getting admission to a program. Given below are the situations where there can be a tie and the decider (tie-breaker) for that situation.

TISSNET Counselling

The candidates who are selected need to report to their respective campus for the document verification as per the admission timeline mentioned by the TISS Authorities.

  • Candidates are required to bring their documents for verification while going for counselling
  • If due to any reason the candidate is unable to attend the counselling on the mentioned date, time, and venue, he/she shall be deprived of admission for that program in that institute and strictly no correspondence shall be entertained in this regard

    (The mark sheet/ gradesheet/ certificates downloaded from the internet will not be accepted by the TISS Authorities at the time of admission)

Previous year TISSNET Selection Process

Earlier, TISS NET admission process consisted of three stages:

  1. National Entrance Test (TISSNET)
  2. TISS Programme Aptitude Test (TISS-PAT): Candidates who are shortlisted after TISSNET appear for TISSPAT. It is conducted for individual programmes.
  3. Personal Interview (OPI)

TISSNET Selection Process for MBA Programmes (Only for HRM&LR and ODCL)

Applicants must note that candidates applying for two programmes (i) MA Human Resource Management & Labour Relations (HRM&LR) and (ii) MA Organisation Development, Change and Leadership (ODCL) of Mumbai Campus have to appear for Management Aptitude Test (TISS-MAT) 

  • TISSPAT for these programmes is replaced with TISSMAT. 
  • TISS MAT is a computer-based MCQ type exam for 45 minutes and 50 Marks.


TISSNET/TISSMAT Selection Process FAQs

  • Yes, If you are on the waitlist and already secured your seat in the 2nd or 3rd program of your choice, you will be allowed admission to the 1st program of your choice if you get selected for it

  • The weightage structure for each round is given as follows:

    • TISSNET Score - 30% weightage
    • TISSMAT / TISSPAT Score - 40% weightage
    • OPI score - 30% weightage
  • The acceptance letter will be sent through mail or candidates can even check for it and download it from the TISS portal

  • No, for getting final selection in a program, your name must be there in the Final Merit List

  • TISS NET admission process begins with the TISSNET exam followed by TISS Online Assessments (OA).
