The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is being observed by the United Nations since 1992. The aim of the day is to promote the well-being of the persons with disabilities and to increase awareness of their situation in social, political cultural and economic ways.

The United Nations is organizing a one-day event at the UN headquarters. The organization is to launch new initiatives under the United Nations Disability Inclusion Strategy. The initiatives will focus on achieving the SDG 17 that pledges “leave no one behind”.

United Nations Disability Inclusion Strategy
The strategy was launched in June 2019. It provides a foundation for transformative and sustainable progress on disability inclusion. The strategy helps to support the implementation of the Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities.
The strategy includes three main key approaches. Twin Track Approach aims at considering disability across all the works of the UN and also works under pre-determined targets. The Intersectionality includes factors like age, gender and location. Coordination strategy aims at a coherent approach to accelerate progress and achieves inclusion.
