- Former student leader and Leftist, Gabriel Boric (35 years) will become youngest President of Chile.
- He won 55.87% of the vote, out of 99.95% of ballots counted, defeating right-wing opponent, Jose Antonio Kast
- Boric as a student led Federation of Students at University of Chile in Santiago.
- He rose to prominence after leading protests in 2011 demanding improved and cheaper education.
- He will be sworn in as President on March 11, 2022

2. India ranks 4th in the Global Spam Report
- India has been ranked at 4th spot in 2021 Global Spam Report, in the tally of top 20 countries affected by spam calls
- India’s rank is moved from 9th in 2020 to the 4th spot this year
- The report has been released by Truecaller
- KYC (know your customer) spam remains one of the most common one in the country.
- The average number of spam calls per user per month stood at 16.8 in October.
- At global level, Truecaller identified 184.5 billion calls and 586 billion messages.

3. Indian Coast Guard launches website for online recruitment of officers
- Director General of Indian Coast Guard, Krishnaswamy Natarajan has launched website for online recruitment of the officers.
- Digital recruitment process will cover around hundred cities spread throughout the country and would be conducted twice a year
- Paradigm shift from the existing process to computer-based examination for selection of officers will enhance transparency, minimise human intervention, facilitate automation and offer equal opportunity

- Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced to set-up national level cooperative university in the country to further expand the cooperative sector.

5. Malta becomes first EU nation to legalize Marijuana
- Malta has become the first EU nation to legalize cultivation and personal use of cannabis.
- Maltese parliament voted in favour of reform last week, with 36 votes in favour and 27 against.
- Under this, adults will be allowed to grow four plants at home and carry seven grams of cannabis, with smoking in public or in front of children remaining illegal.
- Luxembourg, Germany and Switzerland have also announced plans to create regulated markets.

6. Unsoo Kim appointed as MD of Hyundai Motor India Limited
- Unsoo Kim has been appointed as Managing Director of Hyundai Motor India Ltd with effect from 1st January 2022
- He will succeed Seon Seob Kim, who was serving the company since November 2018.
- He is currently with the parent company in South Korea
- SS Kim has played pivotal role in Hyundai growth in the Indian market.
- Hyundai Motor India sold a total of 5,45 lakh units in the financial year period 2018-19, capturing a market share of 16% in private vehicle market

7. India to host Women's Under-18 and Under-19 SAFF championships next year
- India will host Women's Under-18 and Under-19 SAFF championships in 2022, as announced by All India Football Federation.
- While SAFF Under-18 Women’s Championship will be held from 3rd to 14th March and SAFF Under-19 Championship will take place from July 25 to August 3.
- Participants for SAFF U-18 Women’s Championship: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and India.
- SAFF U-19 Championship: Bhutan, Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal, India and Sri Lanka.

8. Prasar Bharati signs MoU with ICCR for promoting Indian culture
- Prasar Bharati signed MoU with Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) for promoting Indian culture
- It aims to bring forth the best of Indian Culture to National and International audiences and provide TV and Digital platforms to the performing artists
- In collaboration with ICCR, Doordarshan will produce 52 half an hour episodes, based on cultural events, concerts, performances of music and dance organized
- It will be in operation for 3 years from 2021 till 2024.

9. Pradeep Kumar Rawat appoints India’s next Ambassador to China
- Pradeep Kumar Rawat (1990 batch IFS officer) has been appointed as the India’s next Ambassador to China and, will take up the assignment shortly in Beijing.
- He is currently India’s Ambassador to the Netherlands
- He will replace Vikram Misri, who completed his three-year term earlier this month and has left for Delhi.
- He will take charge amid the worst phase in India-China relations as both countries are struggling to resolve border crisis along LAC in eastern Ladakh

10. Nitin Gadkari lays foundation stone and inaugurates National Highways, UP
- Union Minister, Nitin Gadkari has laid foundation stone and inaugurated 232 km of National Highways at a cost of Rs 4160 Crore in Jaunpur and Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh
- It will facilitate movement of goods with better connectivity in the region and provide access to agricultural markets, etc
- In Jaunpur, foundation stone for 3 NH projects which will cover 86 kms at a cost of Rs 1,123 crore
- In Mirzapur, 4NH projects worth Rs 3037 crore with total length of 146 kms.

11. SECI awards 100 MW Solar Contract with Battery Project in Chhattisgarh
- Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has been awarded contract for setting up 100 MW (AC) solar with 40 MW/120 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project at Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh
- It will demonstrate how, by using a large battery storage system like BESS, solar power can be used to provide clean solar energy during evening peak hours.
- The project will be supported by World Bank
- It will boost market confidence and catalyze further investments in the sector

- Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog and United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) has rolled out their first AgriTech Challenge cohort for its ambitious innovative Agri-tech program
- Aim: to help smallholder farmers across Asia and Africa to address their challenges in the aftermath of the pandemic.
- Through this platform, cross-border collaborations among emerging markets across India, Indonesia, Malawi, Malaysia, Kenya, Uganda, Zambia would be enabled.
