International Day of Happiness is celebrated on 20th March every year to make people stop and realize the significance of happiness in their lives. World Happiness Day is celebrated all over the globe on 20th March. However, no official theme is shared for the day by the United Nations. People around the globe celebrate this day in their own unique ways. The unofficial theme for International Happiness Day 2021 was "Build Back Happier." This theme was concerned with encouraging people to gradually move over the events of the past few years and come out stronger and happier.

In 2022, "Happiness for all, Ukraine" was the International Day of Happiness theme. This theme was set to keep the Russia-Ukraine war in light. The theme focused on providing comfort to the disturbed during these tough times.

The founder of International Happiness Day is Jayme Illien. The day was officially accepted and sanctioned by the United Nations under resolution 66/281 in July 2012 in Bhutan. The day was first celebrated on 20th March 2013. In partnership with the President of the World Happiness Foundation, Luis Gallardo, Jayme is also the founder of "Happytalism".

The importance of happiness was realized by the United Nations and resulted in the observance of World Happiness Day. Several events are celebrated on this day such as happy flash mobs, meditation, laughter yoga, and the screening of documentaries and films with happiness as the theme. The International Day of Happiness is celebrated by doing what makes you and everyone around you happy.

World Happiness Day holds much significance as it is a day to prioritize happiness and well-being. After accepting happiness as a fundamental goal of people, the United Nations has coordinated with Action of Happiness, a non-profit group of people from over 160 countries, to support and promote the idea of being and spreading happiness. Happinessday is another organization that aligns with the goal of spreading happiness.

The goal of these organizations is to spread light, inspiration, hope, and happiness to all who wish to live a fulfilling life. The organization selects the official theme for International Happiness Day and promotes it by providing ten steps to achieve global happiness.

  10. To adopt Happytalism - Adopt the idea of adopting holistic, equal, inclusive approaches to economic development and work towards the goals of eradicating poverty, sustainable development, and keeping health, well-being, and happiness at the centre of our life.
