XAT 2017 Vocab Prep
Before we focus on other preparation tips for English section, it is very important to know that vocabulary is very important in relation to XAT exam. In this series of article we will discuss some very important words which have appeared in the past year XAT exam either directly or form as a part of RCs etc.
(1) Transcend
Meaning : Go beyond a certain limit
Usage : He doubts that he will ever transcend Shakespeare.
(2) Sub specie aeterni
Meaning : A latin word used in philosophy and literature meaning "from the viewpoint of eternity"
Usage : To view the world sub specie aeterni is to view it as a whole- a limited whole.
(3) Ostentation
Meaning : the pretentious or showy display of wealth and luxury, designed to impress
Usage : When I stepped into his office, I was astonished to see the ostentation of the reception area.
(4) Cynicism
Meaning : believing that people are only interested in themselves and are not sincere
Usage : His influence was weakened, however, by his cynicism and his behavior.
(5) Conspicuous
Meaning : clearly visible
Usage : There was conspicuous consumption under the early emperors.
