What is KTET Exam?

KTET 2023 is a Teacher Eligibility Test that is conducted twice a year to recruit candidates as a teacher in government schools of Kerala. KTET consists of different categories including Category 1 (Lower Primary classes), Category 2 (Upper Primary classes), Category 3 (High School classes), and Category 4 [for Language Teachers (Arabic, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu), Specialist Teachers (Art & Craft) and Physical Education teachers].

KTET also referred to as Kerala Teacher Eligibility Test is an exam conducted to appoint teachers in various government schools in Kerala. It is a state-level exam organized by The Government of Kerala. This examination tests the candidates' skills as a teacher. After qualifying the KTET exam, candidates can apply as a teacher for Upper Primary, Lower Primary, and High Schools in the state.

The guidelines of the KTET exam are formulated by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Kerala. The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE)/ Department of General Education/Government of Kerala also contributed to these guidelines.

Note: The KTET 2022 exam includes three categories, Category 1 - Lower Primary classes, Category 2 - Upper Primary Classes, and Category 3 - High School Classes. Separate tests are conducted for each category to select teachers for various positions.

  • You need to fill in all the particulars, including full name, address, age, date of birth, gender, caste, religion, contact number, email address, educational qualification, and others correctly and carefully

KTET Category 1 Qualification

KTET Category 1 Qualification

The candidate must have passed the higher secondary or senior secondary or equivalent examination with a minimum of 45% marks. Candidates must have obtained a 2-year Trained Teachers Certificate from the Board of Examination, Kerala Government, or its equivalent.

Or

The candidate must have passed the higher secondary or senior secondary or equivalent examination with at least 50% marks and a 4-year degree in Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed)

Or

A candidate must have a 2-year diploma in Elementary Education along with a minimum of 45% marks in the higher secondary or senior secondary or equivalent examination.

Or

A candidate must have a 2-year Diploma in Education ( Special Education ) and a minimum of 50% marks in the higher secondary or senior secondary or equivalent examination.

A candidate must have completed a bachelor's degree in any discipline and a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education or Trained Teachers Certificate from the Kerala Government, or its equivalent.

Or

A candidate must have secured a minimum of 40% marks in the bachelor's degree and must have a 1-year diploma in B.Ed and a candidate must have a minimum of 50% marks in the higher secondary or senior secondary or equivalent examination along with a 4-year degree in BA. Ed /B.Sc.Ed

A candidate must have a BA/B.Sc./B.Com. with minimum 45% marks along with B.Ed. Degree in the concerned subject from a recognized university is required for appearing in the KTET 2023 exam

Or

In the case of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology, those who have M.Sc. Ed. A degree in the concerned subject with a minimum of 50% marks from the recognized institute will be eligible and the candidate has passed BA or equivalent with a minimum of 45% marks and LTTC.

KTET Category 4 Qualification

You must have the requisite qualifications for the Language teachers(Urdu/Arabic/Hindi, Sanskrit), and the teachers for Physical Education and other specialists should abide by all the Kerala Education Act and Rules.

KTET Selection Process

The candidate’s performance in the KTET 2023 exam will decide the selection. Candidates must score 60% in the general category and 55% in the reserved category to qualify for this exam. The passing candidate can apply for public and private school teaching jobs. After passing the exam, the student must qualify for the personal interview. The KTET Selection Process 2023 includes a demonstration class for the shortlisted candidate. This helps educational authorities decide on the final recruitment of the candidates. Note: In the last KTET Exam, the candidate in the general category must obtain 90 marks out of 150 marks and in the reserved category. The candidate must score 82 marks out of 150 marks. This will make the candidate eligible as a teacher in upper primary and lower primary.
