In conjunction with the above idea, we bring to you our series ‘Newspaper Wordlist’. This series aims to help you understand the different aspects of the commonly (and not so commonly) used words, ranging from their meaning and pronunciations to proper usage in sentences.

1. Word: Stern (कठोर या निर्दय)
- Pronunciation: sturn/ स्टर्न
- Part of Speech: Adjective
- Meaning:
a. firm, strict, or uncompromising:
b. rigorous or austere; of an unpleasantly serious character: - Synonyms: hard, harsh, severe
- Antonyms: kind, easy, lenient
- Usage in a sentence: Teacher treated the students with a stern reprimand for not doing the homework.
2. Word: Inflection (विभक्ति)
- Pronunciation: in-flek-shuh n/ इन्फ्लेक्शन
- Part of Speech: Noun
- Meaning: a change in or addition to the form of a word that shows a change in the way it is used in sentences.
- Synonyms: accent, tone, emphasis
- Antonyms: monotone, chatter, gibberish
- Usage in a Sentence: Barbara’s inflection constantly wavered as she told the detective about her assault.
3. Word: Alacrity (उत्साह)
- Pronunciation: uh-lak-ri-tee/ अलैक्रटी
- Part of Speech: Noun
- Meaning: brisk and cheerful readiness.
- Synonyms: willingness, eagerness, readiness, preparedness
- Antonyms: laziness, reluctance, indifference, disinclination, aversion
- Usage in a sentence: It was an interesting challenge and I responded with alacrity.
4. Word: Introspection (आत्मनिरीक्षण)
- Pronunciation: in-tro-spek-shun/इन्ट्रोस्पेक्शन
- Part of Speech: Noun
- Meaning:
a. the process of examining one’s own thoughts and feelings - Synonyms: self-observation, self-analysis, contemplation
- Antonyms: gregarious, extravert
- Usage in a sentence: Perhaps if you indulged in a little introspection, you would stop repeating the same bad habits.
5. Word: Adhere (दृढ़ रहना)
- Pronunciation: ad-heer/ अड्हिर
- Part of Speech: Verb
- Meaning:
a. to stay attached; stick fast; cleave; cling (usually followed by to):
b. to be devoted in support or allegiance; be attached as a follower or upholder (usually followed by to) - Synonyms: stick, cling, cohere
- Antonyms: separate, abandon, apart
- Usage in a sentence: The mud adhered to his shoes.
6. Word: Radical (उग्र सुधारवादी)
- Pronunciation: rad-i-kuhl/ रैडिकल
- Part of Speech: Adjective
- Meaning:
a. of or going to the root or origin; fundamental:
b. thoroughgoing or extreme, especially as regards change from accepted or traditional forms:
c. favoring drastic political, economic, or social reforms:
d. favoring, supporting, or representing extreme forms of religious fundamentalism: - Synonyms: revolutionary, extremist, fanatic
- Antonyms: conservative, traditional, moderate
- Usage in a sentence: A radical change in the policy brought huge revenues to the company.
7. Word: Extremist (चरमपंथी)
- Pronunciation: ik-stree-mist/ इक्स्ट्रीमिस्ट
- Part of Speech: Noun
- Meaning: a person who holds extreme political or religious views, especially one who advocates illegal, violent, or other extreme action.
- Synonyms: radical, fanatic, immoderate, militant
- Antonyms: moderate, conventional, conservative
- Usage in Sentence: The extremist group was banned from the event because their radical and racist views do not line up with the agenda.
8. Word: Snowballed (तेज़ी से बढ़ जाना)
- Pronunciation: snoh-bawld/ स्नोबॉल्ड
- Part of Speech: Verb
- Meaning:
a. threw snowballs at
b. increased rapidly in size, intensity, or importance. - Synonyms: raised, increased, added, gained
- Antonym: decreased
- Usage in a Sentence: Problems snowball when early trouble signs are ignored.
9. Word: Accumulate (इकट्ठा करना)
- Pronunciation: uh-kyoo-myuh-leyt/ अक्यूम्यलेट
- Part of Speech: Verb
- Meaning:
a. to gather or collect, often in gradual degrees; heap up:
b. to gather into a heap, mass, cover, etc.; form a steadily increasing quantity: - Synonyms: stockpile, hoard, gather
- Antonyms: disperse, divide, dwindle
- Usage in a sentence: Snow accumulated in the driveway after last night's heavy snowfall.
10. Word: Demolition (गिराव)
- Pronunciation: dem-uh-lish-uh n/डेमलिशन
- Part of Speech: Noun
- Meaning: the action or process of demolishing or being demolished.
- Synonyms: destruction, ruin
- Antonyms: rehabilitation, conservation
- Use in a Sentence: The project required the total demolition of the old bridge.
