Vocabulary is an essential tool to ace the English section in competitive examinations. You can score better in the subject if you are able to intensify your command of Vocabulary. A regular reading habit can help you with this. With the exercise, you will come across a number of new words, whose meanings you can look up in the dictionary.     a. representing the most perfect or typical example of a quality or class.
  • Synonyms: leading, headmost
  • Antonyms: atypical, extraneous
  • Use in a Sentence: Everybody thinks of him as the quintessential worker.

 3.  Word: Fillip (उकसाना)

  • Pronunciation: fil-uhp /फिलप
  • Part of Speech: Noun, Verb
  • Meaning:
    a. an act or instance of striking something with the nail of a finger snapped from the end of a thumb; a smart tap or stroke (Noun)
    b. anything that tends to rouse, excite, or revive; a stimulus (Noun)
    c. to strike with a fillip (Verb)
    d. to tap or strike smartly (Verb)
  • Synonyms: boost, stimulate, incentive
  • Antonyms: discourage, suppress, abash
  • Usage in a sentence: The athletics win provided a much-needed fillip to/for national pride.

  • Part of Speech: Adjective
  • Meaning: 

         a. resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering.

  • Synonyms: persistent, constant
  • Antonyms: capricious, ever-changing
  • Use in Sentence: They stood steadfast on their faith.

5. Word: Bolster (सहारा)

  • Pronunciationbohl-ster/ बोल्स्टर
  • Part of Speech: Verb
  • Meaning: support or strengthen.
  • Synonyms: reinforce, brace, fortify
  • Antonyms: obstruct, weaken, hinder
  • Usage in a Sentence: He is making a strong effort to bolster the territory's confidence.

6. WordResilience (तन्यकता)

  • Pronunciation: ri-zil-yuh ns/रिज़िलीअन्स
  • Part of Speech: Noun
  • Meaning:
    a. the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness.
    b. the ability of a substance or object to spring back into shape; elasticity.
  • Synonyms:  flexibility, plasticity, elasticity,
  • Antonyms: frailty, rigidity
  • Usage in a Sentence: My mother has shown great resilience to stress.

7. Word: Prognosis (भावीफल)

  • Pronunciation: prog-noh-sis/ प्राग्नोसिस
  • Part of Speech
  • Meaning:
    a. Medicine/Medical. a forecasting of the probable course and outcome of a disease, especially of the chances of recovery.
    b. a prediction of the course of a disease
  • Synonyms: prediction, forecast, projection
  • Antonyms: calculation, certainty, computation 
  • Usage in a sentence: It is difficult even for senior or experienced doctors to make any prognosis in the case of cancer patients.

8. WordBrace (बंधन, बांधना)

  • Pronunciation: breys/ ब्रेस
  • Part of Speech: Noun, Verb
  • Meaning: a. a strengthening piece of iron or timber used in building or carpentry. [Noun]
    b. prepare (someone) for something difficult or unpleasant. [Verb]
  • Synonyms: support, strengthen, prop
  • Antonyms: let go, weaken, loosen
  • Usage in a Sentence: The passengers were told to brace themselves for a crash landing.

9. Word: Threshold (सीमा)

  • Pronunciationthresh-ohld
  • Part of Speech: Noun
  • Meaning
    a. a strip of wood or stone forming the bottom of a doorway crossed when entering a house or room.
    b. the magnitude or intensity that must be exceeded for a certain reaction, phenomenon, result, or condition to occur or be manifested.
  • Synonyms: limit, boundary, door, brink, verge
  • Antonyms: end, closure, finish
  • Usage in a sentence: If your income rises above a certain threshold, your tax rate also rises.

10. WordParadigmatic (निदर्शनात्मक)

  • Pronunciation: par-uh-dig-mat-ik/ पैरडाइमैटिक
  • Part of Speech: Adjective
  • Meaning: serving as a typical example of something.
  • Synonyms: model, iconic, exemplary
  • Antonyms: individual. co-operative, syntagmatic
  • Usage in a Sentence: This may be due to the greater paradigmatic influence of geophysical research on the other earth sciences.
