For normalization, the National Testing Agency(NTA) used percentile equivalence.
What is the percentile score?
Percentile score is a relative term/score. This is the relative performance of all candidates appearing in an exam. For each session of JEE Main (I) 2019, the marks scored by candidates will be mapped into a scale ranging from 1 to 100. The topper of each session will get 100 percentile and other scores will be mapped into appropriate percentiles. The percentile score refers to the number of candidates who have scored equal to or below the specific percentile (in a session).
Percentile score should be understood well because this percentile score is the normalized score for the JEE Main Examination. To bring out the final merit list, the percentile score will be taken into account instead of raw marks of the candidate.
To avoid ties of percentile score, the score will be counted up to seven digits. This will also help in removing the bunching effect.
