IIM Ahmedabad Admission Process 2022

The Detailed IIM A Admission process is mentioned below. For your ease of understanding, the IIM A admission procedure is described in step by step format. Read on to gain more clarity on how to get admission in IIM A.

First of all, students need to fill CAT 2021 form (If they are not available in India for CAT 2021 then they can submit their GMAT Score) in which they need to choose all the programme of IIMA in which they are interested

  • Then, Indian candidates have to appear for the CAT examination which usually happens in late November every year
  • There is a certain overall and sectional cut-off score/percentile set by the IIMA for every CAT based program and the students need to score above that in order to get themselves screened-in for further procedures in IIMA admissions

Verbal and Reading Comprehension percentile rank

Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning percentile rank

Quantitative Aptitude  percentile rank

Overall percentile rank

PwD (General, EWS, NC-OBC-cum-transgender, SC)

Cut-Off scores mentioned for CAT 2020 and for admission to PGP batch 2021-23 of IIM-A

  • The next step in the process is sorting the exceptional performers from the complete list of candidates. This is done by calculating Application Rating which is based on the performance in 10th standard, 12th standard, graduation and the total working experience a candidate has
  • Based on this application rating, a Composite Score is calculated (click here to know more about the detailed calculations for 2-year Full-Time MBA program) with the help of which students are shortlisted for AWT (Analytical Writing Test) and PI (Personal Interview) rounds
  • After clearing the AWT and PI rounds, the final selection of the candidate depends upon 4 things – Personal Interview (50% weightage), Analytical Writing Test (10%), CAT Score (25%) and Application Rating (15%)
  • Based on these 4 factors of the IIM A admission criteria, a Final Composite Score is calculated and according to the vacant seats in the institute, students are selected and offered final admissions to IIMA
  • As far as international students are concerned, they need to appear for the GMAT in place of CAT, rest all the procedure remains mostly similar to that of the Indian Students.

Student-Exchange Program at IIM A

There are various colleges/universities that have a tie-up with IIMA to cater to the student-exchange program under which a scholar(s) gets a chance to complete a portion of his/her PGP studies from those universities/colleges (3 months/6 months as IIMA decides).

Every year, almost 150 students from India go abroad and almost 90 students from abroad to come to India to study at IIMA as a part of Student-Exchange Program.

The number of international partner institutes has increased tremendously from 4 to 80. A complete list of 80 such international partners of IIMA is provided here.

From the details about the IIMA mentioned above, it is quite evident that getting admission to this college is not a cup of tea. But one who dedicates him/herself completely towards preparing well for this institute would never find anything ‘impossible’ or ‘beyond his/her scope’. We suggest all our aspirants prepare well and most importantly read a newspaper daily. ‘The HINDU’ is one such paper we recommend. Reading will not only enhance your knowledge but also will help you in enhancing your hold over Verbal Ability. Practise at least 40-50 questions each day from Quantitative Aptitude and Logical Reasoning. You need to create a good balance between your speed and accuracy. The questions you will be asked in CAT (or GMAT) will be of 10th standard only. So you need to work on your speed to solve as many questions in as less time as you can.
