Cannes Film Festival 2022
Why in News:
- The opening ceremony of the Cannes Festival saw the largest ever official Indian delegation on the red carpet.
key points:
- Cannes Film Festival is organized in France from May 17 to 28, 2022.
- India's largest delegation to the Cannes Film Festival was led by the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Shri Anurag Thakur.
- A total of 11 members were given an opportunity to make their presence felt on the red carpet in this festival held in France.
- Folk artist Mr Mame Khan got the opportunity to be the first member of the Indian contingent to lead the red carpet.
- For the first time, various regional cinema artists along with prominent artists have been included in the Indian delegation.

The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) inaugurated in Leh
Why in News:
- The Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Communications and Railways, Shri Ashwini Vaishnav, on 17 May 2022 inaugurated the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) Center Leh, Extension Center Kargil and IT Enabled Incubation Center for Handicrafts and Handloom Sectors.

- The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) works to develop industry oriented good quality teaching and training in the areas of latest technical know-how along with providing formal and non-formal teaching in the field of IECT.
- The main objective of NIELIT is to become the single source of assurance of quality computer education for the informal institutions of the nation.
- Among other objectives it aims to become a premier institute of the country for examination and certification in the field of Information, Electronics and Communication Technology (IECT).

Democracy group headed by Election Commission of India on 'Electoral Integrity
Why in News:
- The Democracy Group on 'Electoral Integrity' will be headed by the Election Commission of India in partnership with 100 democratic countries.
key points:
- As part of the 'Summit for Democracy', India will lead the 'Democracy Group on Electoral Integrity.
- This has been announced by a four-member US delegation led by Uzra Zeya, Under Secretary for Civil Defense, Democracy and Human Rights, in a meeting held at the Electoral House in New Delhi.
- In this conference, India will share its knowledge, technical expertise and experiences with other democratic countries of the world.
- The 'Summit for Democracy' is one of the biggest activities of the yearlong with events and dialogues on topics related to democracy.

Inauguration of services of CRC for skill development, rehabilitation and empowerment of Persons with Disabilities

- Services of Composite Regional Centre (CRC) for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities were inaugurated virtually in Shillong by Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Pratima Bhowmik.

- The event was organized at U Soso Tham Auditorium in Shillong, Meghalaya.
- The main objective of the newly established CRC is to provide essential services for the differently-abled and to assist in the development of human resources in the state of Meghalaya.
- The permanent structure of CRC will be set up at Umsawli in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya.
- The CRC will assist in conducting skill development training for persons with disabilities as well as in carrying out rehabilitation services for different categories of persons with disabilities.

- The 4th meeting of the National Start-up Advisory Council (NSAC) was held in Delhi.
- The major objective of the meeting is to strengthen the start-up ecosystem through various initiatives and programmes.
- The NavIC Grand Challenge was also launched by Piyush Goyal during the meeting, the main objective of which is to promote the adoption of NavIC as a geo-positioning solution.
- To participate in NavIC, participants will have to apply on the website of Start-up India. The main objective of this initiative is to identify solutions for start-ups that are working on developing NavIC enabled drones.

- A total of 11 categories were participated by India in the Deaflympics 2021 Games.
- This year the Deaflympics 2021 was held at the Festa da Uva Main Pavilion in the city of Caxias do Sul, southern Brazil.
- In Deaflympics 2021 Around 2,100 athletes from 72 countries participated in the Deaflympics 2021 Games this year.
