Italy PM election: Giorgia Meloni elected as First woman PM of Italy

  • Giorgia Meloni has been elected the first female PM of Italy to lead a conservative coalition.

key points:

  • Giorgia Meloni will take over from Prime Minister Mario Draghi, the former head of the European Central Bank who pushed Rome during his 18-month tenure at the center of EU policymaking, establishing close ties with Paris and Berlin.
  • Italian far-right leader Giorgia Meloni has topped the party in the general elections.
  • Giorgia Meloni is an Italian politician and journalist born on 15 January 1977.
  • Giorgia Meloni's father came from Sardinia and her mother was from Sicily.
  • In 1992 at the age of 15, Meloni joined the Youth Front, the youth wing of the neo-fascist Italian Social Movement (MSI).
  • Subsequently, in the year 1996, he received a diploma from the Amerigo Vespucci Institute.
  • He also served as a youth minister in Berlusconi's 2008–2011 government, before the founding of the brothers of Italy in 2012 by Giorgia Meloni.
  • The capital of Italy is Rome, and its official currency is the Euro.

Ministry of Rural Development Launches the JALDOOT App

  • JALDOOT App and JALDOOT App e-brochure launched by Faggan Singh Kulaste, Minister of State for Rural Development and Steel, in the presence of Union Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti and Minister of State for Panchayati Raj, Kapil Moreshwar Patil.

key points:

  • Gram Rozgar Sahayak will be able to measure well water level before and after monsoon twice a year by using this app.
  • A central digital database for systematic groundwater level data collection and analysis will be amended to use the JALDOOT App.
  • Despite efforts to promote measures such as watershed development, afforestation, water body development and maintenance, and rainwater harvesting, groundwater levels have declined in many parts of the country.
  • With the help of JALDOOT App, it will be easy to monitor the water level across the country, and the collected information can be used for Mahatma Gandhi NREGA Schemes and Gram Panchayat Development Schemes.
  • This JALDOOT app will be used throughout the country to record the water level of selected one to three wells of a village.
  • The pre-monsoon water level in the open wells will be measured manually from May 1 to May 31 and the post-monsoon level for the same well will be monitored manually from October 1 to October 31.
  • Both online and offline use of JALDOOT mobile application is supported.

HAL Cryogenic Engines Manufacturing Facility inaugurated by President Murmu

  • The Integrated Cryogenic Engine Manufacturing Facility of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has been inaugurated in Bengaluru by Her Excellency President Smt. Draupadi Murmu.

  • On this occasion the foundation stone of Zonal Institute of Virology (South Zone) was also laid virtually by the President Smt. Draupadi Murmu.
  • State-owned Indian aerospace and military business Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is based in Bangalore.
  • On December 23, 1940, Walchand Hirachand founded Hindustan Aircraft Limited in Bangalore.
  • After India gained independence, Hindustan Aircraft Limited was placed under the administrative supervision of the Ministry of Defense in January 1951. During the Second World War, the government purchased one-third of the company's stake in March 1941.
  • Following this, in October 1964, Hindustan Aircraft Limited and Aeronautics India Limited combined, giving rise to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
  • HAL has previously shown that it is capable of doing research, developing, and producing a variety of aircraft systems.

Ageas becomes first foreign business to hold 74 per cent stake in Indian life insurance company

  • Ageas Federal Life Insurance (AFLI) has become the first life insurance company in India to be held by a foreign partner of 74 per cent stake after the completion of Belgium-based shareholder, Ageas Insurance International NV.

  • IDBI Bank's additional 25 per cent stake in Ages Federal Life Insurance has been acquired by Ageas for a total cash return of Rs 500 crore.
  • Following the acquisition of an additional 25 per cent stake, Ageas' stake in the joint venture has increased from 49 per cent to 74 percent.
  • Earlier, as a part of the Union Budget for FY 2012, the permissible limit for foreign direct investment (FDI) in insurance companies was raised to 74 per cent by the government.
  • Ageas Federal Life Insurance was established in the year 2007 and it headquarter is located in Mumbai.
  • Vignesh Shahane is the Managing Director (MD) and CEO of Ageas Federal Life Insurance (AFLI).

Indian-origin Suella Braverman won first Queen Elizabeth II award

  • Other Indian-origin winners in various categories who have been presented with the award include-
    • Broadcaster Naga Munchetti in the media category, Namit Malhotra, chairman and CEO of renowned visual effects firm DNEG in the arts and culture category.
    • Captain Harpreet Chandi was awarded in the Uniformed and Civil Services category earlier this year for his solo expedition from Antarctica to the South Pole.
    • Professor Sir Shankar Balasubramaniam was named Professional of the Year for his pioneering DNA sequencing discovery.
    • Sherry Vaswani, CEO of IT services firm Xalient, won the Entrepreneur of the Year award.
    • Restaurateur brothers Shamil and Kavi Thakr have been named Businessperson of the Year as the founders of the successful Dishoom chain of restaurants.
    • The Lifetime Achievement Award has been given to Kartar Lalwani, the founder of UK-based health supplement brand Vitabiotics.

  • For the first time the World Rabies Day campaign was started in the year 2007.
  • The campaign began as a partnership between several organizations, including the Alliance for Rabies Control and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.
  • After three consecutive years of celebrating World Rabies Day, it was estimated that prevention and awareness programs took place in over 100 countries and more than 100 million people were educated about the dangers of rabies.

  • The International Day for Universal Access to Information will include a high-level inauguration this year with international experts and an Inter-Ministerial Roundtable on Access to Information and Artificial Intelligence.
  • The International Day for Universal Access to Information also upholds the idea of ​​upholding human rights and, at the same time, it raises awareness of the importance of freedom of information.
